Kell Brook can’t wait for Bizier fight on Saturday

brook101By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) can’t wait to get inside the ring to face Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) this Saturday night on March 26 at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, UK.

Brook, 29, has been out of action for the past 10 months since his last fight in May of 2015 against an over-matched fellow Matchroom Sport fighter Frankie Gavin.

Brook suffered an abdominal injury last year that wiped out a fight against #4 IBF Diego Chaves that would have been arguably the second toughest opponent of Brooks’ career. You have to go back to 2014 for Brook’s last real fight against Shawn Porter.

Brook wants Khan to beat Canelo

1-IMG-20160317-WA0006By Scott Gilfoid: For all the back and forth talk that has gone on between Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) and IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) over the years, you would think that Brook would want Khan to lose his fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7.

Instead of wanting Khan to lose, Brook is pulling for him to beat Canelo. Of course, Brook has selfish reasons for wanting Khan to win. He wants to then face Khan and beat him later on and get the glory from being the guy that beats Khan.

Brook doesn’t say whether he would be willing to move up to the full weight for the middleweight division to face Khan for the WBC 160lb belt. We do know that Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is interested in matching Brook up against IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at a catch-weight of 157lbs. Nevertheless, perhaps the catch-weight only applies to Golovkin and not to Khan.

Hearn wants Golovkin for Kell Brook at catch-weight of 157

Image: Hearn wants Golovkin for Kell Brook at catch-weight of 157By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is taking the shotgun approach to trying to get his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) a big money fight for the summer. Hearn has targeted the following fighters for Brook for the 32,000 seat Bramall Lane in Sheffield: Gennady Golovkin, Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley winner, Miguel Cotto, Danny Garcia and Jessie Vargas.

Hearn says the fighters he wants the most for Brook is Pacquiao and Bradley. He would also like Cotto, as he says HBO approached him about fighting Cotto on June 18, but he thinks Cotto is interested in fighting someone else. As for the Golovkin fight, Hearn says he spoke with Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler about the two fighters facing each other at a catch-weight of 157lbs.

Kell Brook says he’ll stand and fight Bizier

brook9By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) says he plans on standing and fighting #1 IBF challenger Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) this Saturday night in Brook’s mandatory defense at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, UK.

It’s interesting that Brook is saying he’ll stand and fight the 31-year-old Bizier, because this is the exact opposite of what Brook did in his toughest fight to date against former IBF 147lb champion Shawn Porter in 2014. In that fight, Brook moved a lot, and held constantly. It would have been great if Brook stood and fought Porter because the boxing world would have seen what Brook was made of.

Instead, we saw running, holding and spoiling from Brook. With the referee doing next to nothing to police Brook’s frequent holding, he was able to hold all night long to keep Porter from throwing punches.

Kell Brook looking for career-defining fight after Bizier

brook4By Scott Gilfoid: Once IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) takes care of business this Saturday night against the latest of the IBF’s usual less impress #1 ranked contenders, Brook will be looking to get a career-defining fight against the likes of Danny Garcia, Jessie Vargas, Tim Bradley or Manny Pacquiao later this year.

Brook isn’t mentioning Keith Thurman as one of the guys that he wants to fight despite the fact that he’s the WBA champion and wisely recognized as currently the best fighter in the 147lb division. I wonder why Brook isn’t mentioning Thurman as one of the guys he wants to fight?

Before Brook can get his dream fight against one of the other talents, he needs to beat his mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) this Saturday night on March 26 at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, UK.

Nelson concerned about Kell Brook overlooking Bizier

brook676By Scott Gilfoid: Former cruiserweight world champion Johnny Nelson thinks there’s a potential for IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) overlooking his next opponent #1 IBF Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) in their fight this month in 10 days on March 26 at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, UK.

The fight is a perceived mismatch in the eyes of the boxing public, as Bizier has lost two out of his last six contests in the past three years, and he’s done precious little to deserve a world title fight other than beating fringe contender Fredrick Lawson last November.

Nelson feels that Brook might overlook the 31-year-old Bizier, because he’s been beaten twice by Jo Jo Dan, a fighter that Brook obliterated in four rounds last March in a horrible mismatch.

Why don’t modern day boxers fight on the inside?

brook55666(Kell Brook showing fine form here with his textbook headlock of Shawn Porter in their fight in 2014) By Gerardo Granados: As the readers already know, this weekend two potentially good fights were cancelled, one due to failing to make weight, the other one due to visa issues. So, I had plenty of time to search for any meaningful fight that I could find.

Finally, I saw a fight in which both fighters weren’t able to fight on the inside. It is not just my appreciation, indeed, all both boxers did on the inside was clinch – push and wait for the referee to break them apart. Two experienced prizefighters with more than 25 bouts each, truth is they weren’t elite boxers but his inside game was poor, to say the least.

It sickens me to see a titlist or belt holders who aren’t able to work on the inside. Now a day many boxers wrongly believe that to clinch is a smart defensive move. But, according to the rules, it is a foul and even excessive clinching leads to disqualification. Maybe the readers don’t believe such thing, but it is true, perhaps you remember that referee Mills Lane disqualified more than a single fighter.

Brook wants unification fight in stadium

brook3By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) is looking past his mandatory defense this month against Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) towards a much hoped for unification fight later this year against one of the other welterweight champions.

Brook, who is about to turn 30 on May 3, believes that a unification fight will be a stadium fight for him in the UK. Whether that’s possible against the likes of Jessie Vargas or Danny Garcia remains to be seen. Unfortunately for Brook, it might be his only chance of ever having a big stadium fight, because it doesn’t look like Amir Khan will ever give him the fight he’s been pining away for all these years.

I don’t think it’s possible for Brook to fight in a stadium if he faces Vargas or Danny Garcia. Those probably big enough names to get the British public to come see him fight in a large stadium in big numbers. Brook needs a bigger name like Tim Bradley or Manny Pacquiao.

Spence: I want Brook-Bizier winner

Errol Spence_Presser_Edward Diller _ Premier Boxing Champions1(Photo credit: Ed Diller/DiBella Entertainment) By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten #2 IBF Errol Spence Jr. (19-0, 16 KOs) says he wants to go after the winner of the March 26 fight between IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook and #1 IBF Kevin Bizier. Spence says he wants the fight against the winner of the Brook-Bizier fight this year rather than having to wait until later on down the line before he gets a shot at the winner.

Unfortunately for Spence, the winner of the Brook vs. Bizier fight will have two voluntary defenses available to them, and it’s EXTREMELY unlikely that the winner of that fight will want to risk their hide facing a talent like Spence. Let’s be real about this; we’re probably not going to see Spence face the winner of the Brook-Bizier fight until late 2017, if at all. What we don’t want is the winner of the Brook vs. Bizier fight to have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the ring to fight Spence for lack of interest in facing him.

Brook wants Danny Garcia, Pacquiao or Bradley in 2016

brook7777By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) just can’t seem to get a break. He’s been pining away for a fight against Amir Khan for the past three years, but he’s been ignored by him. In the meantime, Brook hasn’t been fighting talented enough guys to raise his profile.

You can’t blame that on Brook or you can blame it on his promoter Eddie Hearn, who has been matching hi softly ever since he took over as his promoter five years ago. Brook will be defending his IBF title against his mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) this month on March 26 at the Sheffield Arena, in Sheffield, UK.

Brook would like to have his next fight already lined up by the time he enters the ring on 3/26, and he has got three fighters in mind that he is interested in facing. Brook would like to fight WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia, Manny Pacquiao or Tim Bradley.
