Image: Golovkin vs. Brook sells out in 12 minutes!

By Scott Gilfoid: It didn’t take long for the tickets to get scooped up by fans for the Gennady “GGG” Golovkin vs. Kell Brook fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The tickets for September 10th Golovkin-Brook fight sold out within 12 minutes of going on sale. That’s pretty incredible, and it shows the amount of interest that fans have in the fight in the UK.

The hype hasn’t been nearly as high in the U.S among the casual boxing fans, because they still have no idea about the match-up. It’s the hardcore boxing fans in the U.S that are avidly following the news on the fight. For the most part, it’s seen as another Amir Khan vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight despite the positive press about Brook.

Kell Brook: I’m the better fighter than Golovkin

Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook Press Conference

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook was building himself something fierce on Thursday in taking to the media. He was busy pumping himself up, saying how he’s the better fighter than IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, and how he’s going to beat him on September 10 when the two of them get inside the ring at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The main theme that Brook was repeating over and over again with the media is that the hard hitting Triple has never been inside the ring with someone like himself before, and he won’t know how to deal with what he’s got. Brook said that he doesn’t care if Golovkin chooses to try and box him, because he says he’ll his jab to get the better of the Kazakhstan fighter.

1-cotto 02

By Patrick McHugh: Roc Nation Sports, the promoters for former four-division world champion Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs), turned down a summer fight against IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs), according to his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.

Hearn said that the plan was for Brook and Cotto to fight this summer on HBO at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. However, Roc Nation didn’t want the fight despite HBO liking the idea.

Eubank Jr. could fight on Golovkin vs. Brook undercard

eubank74

By Patrick McHugh: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is saying that Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) could be added to the Gennady “GGG” Golovkin vs. Kell Brook card on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England. Having the 26-year-old Eubank Jr. on the undercard of the Golovkin-Brook fight would help setup a fight between the winner of them and Eubank Jr. later on in the year in December.

Hearn would like to match Eubank Jr. against the winner of that fight, as he promotes Eubank Jr. as well as Brook. It would be a win-win situation for Hearn and his Matchroom stable if they can get the winner of the Golokvin vs. Brook fight to face Eubank Jr. rather than having them move in another direction.

Golovkin: Kell Brook is the same size as me

golovkin6789

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin met with his opponent for his next fight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) earlier today in their kickoff press conference at in New York. This was the first time these two fighters had been in the same room with each other, and enabled them to size each other up before their fight on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Golovkin immediately noticed that the 30-year-old Brook was the same height as him, as well as being very big in terms of overall size. Brook looked nothing like a welterweight at all. He looked like a middleweight just like Golovkin. If Brook’s size remains the same as it is now, it could make for an interesting figh with two fighters of equal size battling it out on September 10 on Sky Box Office and HBO.

Deontay Wilder: Golovkin is being a hypocrite

arreola-wilder (8)

By Dan Ambrose: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder says IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) is a hypocrite for selecting welterweight Kell “Special K’ Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) to fight in his next title defense on September 10 rather than fighting someone from his own division at 160.

Golovkin has previously made comments about the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Amir Khan fight last May, saying it’s a “business fight’ and that it wasn’t “respect” for the sport that Canelo was fighting a guy two divisions below him. Golovkin is now doing the same thing by fighting Brook, according to Deontay Wilder.

Golovkin vs. Brook head to head at New York press conference

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) met on Thursday for their first press conference in New York. I must say that there’s not much difference in size between the two fighters.

The two stood side by side on stage and they looked nearly the same in the size department. Golovkin looked muscular and in shape compared to Brook, who appears to be a little chunky and carrying around extra weight. Golovkin already looks like he’s ready to fight. GGG looked in great shape. I wish I could say the same thing for Brook, who just looked blocky and not in shape.

Brook interested in Eubank Jr fight after Golovkin

brook75

By Jeff Aranow: Welterweight Kell Brook says he’d be interested in facing Chris Eubank Jr. if/when he defeats IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in their fight on September 10. Brook figures to beat Golovkin to take his four world titles from him in their fight at the O2 Arena in London, England. At that point, Brook says he would be open to discussions about particular fights and fight options. Brook could stay at middleweight to defend his belts against Eubank Jr. in what would be a big fight, or he could move back down to 147 to continue to defend his IBF welterweight title.

It might be a little tough for Brook to lose the fight to get back down to 147. Unless there’s a meaningful fight for Brook at welterweight after his next fight with Triple G, it might not be worth it for Brook to go back down in weight. He’s already fought at welterweight for 12 years and has never been able to get any of the top names to fight him in that weight class.
