Canelo talks Golovkin vs. Brook fight

Image: Canelo talks Golovkin vs. Brook fight

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) finally broke his silence about the upcoming fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and welterweight Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) on September 10.

Canelo points out that in his fight against welterweight Amir Khan, he only made him come up in weight one division to fight him at a catch-weight of 155 pounds. Canelo says that Brook has to move up two divisions to fight Triple G at 160lbs. Canelo sees that as potentially harder for Brook than what he was asking Khan to do against him. Canelo further states that he’ll beat Golovkin when they face each other next year in the fall.

Hunter: Golovkin can’t afford to have a close fight

Image: Hunter: Golovkin can’t afford to have a close fight

By Allan Fox: Trainer Virgil Hunter sees IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) dealing with a lot of pressure in his next fight against welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs). Hunter sees Golovkin as having spoiled the fight fans with him scoring so many knockouts.

It’s to the point now where if one of his fights go the distance or if he wins by a close decision, he’ll be scrutinized by the boxing fans in the same way that IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev is now being scrutinized after his tougher than expected 12 round decision win over Isaac Chilemba.

Lennox Lewis doubts Brook can beat Golovkin

Image: Lennox Lewis doubts Brook can beat Golovkin

By Dan Ambrose: Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis doubts that welterweight Kell Brook can make the jump to middleweight to beat Gennady GGG Golovkin on September 10. Lewis believes that the weight classes were designed for a reason, and he thinks there’s not too many fighters that can move up two divisions at a time and find success.

Lewis says he think Chris Eubank Jr. would have beaten Triple G if he’d fought him. The problem is, Eubank Jr. and/or his father Chris Eubank Sr. failed to agree to a fight against Golovkin when it was offered to them. They didn’t meet the deadline that was set by them from Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn. He offered the same deal to Brook, and he agreed to it.

Golovkin’s trainer concerned with Brook’s clinching

golovkin86

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says he’s very concerned about a number of things going into GGG’s fight against welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

While there are things like the judges being influenced by the pro-Brook crowd that has Sanchez’s attention, what he appears to be more concerned with is Brook’s habit of clinching his opponents and moving around the ring.

Roach: Kell Brook is desperate for a payday

Image: Roach: Kell Brook is desperate for a payday

By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Freddie Roach believes the only reason that IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is moving up in weight two divisions to take on unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in their fight on September 10 is because he’s desperate for a payday and willing to take the risk because of that.

Roach notes that Brook has never been able to get a fight against Britain’s Amir Khan, and that other fighters from his division have avoided him pretty much. So instead of sticking it out at 147 in taking the guys that are willing to fight him, Brook decided to take a major risk in moving up thirteen pounds to face Golovkin at 160lbs without the benefit of a catch-weight.

Golovkin surprised at Brook’s size

Image: Golovkin surprised at Brook's size

By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) says he was shocked at how big welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) was when the two of them stood next to each other on the stage at their New York press conference this week. Golovkin perhaps was expecting to be standing next to a normal welterweight that was smaller than him.

Instead, Brook was the same size if not bigger than Golovkin. Brook is a little overweight and not the in shape fighter he is when he’s fighting. His promoter Eddie Hearn expects him to be at 167 when he faces Golovkin on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Golovkin’s WBA title won’t be available for Brook fight

Image: Golovkin’s WBA title won’t be available for Brook fight

By Chris Williams: Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) won’t have the chance of fighting for unbeaten Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s WBA middleweight title because the World Boxing Association won’t be sanctioning the September 10th fight as a title match-up due to the 30-year-old Brook never having fought at middleweight during his career. Brook is moving up in weight from the welterweight division to challenge Golovkin at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

If Golovkin wants to have his WBA title on the line for the fight, then he’ll need to request permission from the WBA to do so, according to Fight News.

Loeffler wants Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. in December

Image: Loeffler wants Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. in December

By Dan Ambrose: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions hasn’t given up on the idea of matching his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) against contender Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs). Loeffler was unable to get an agreement from Eubank Jr. and his father Chris Eubank Sr. for a fight in September this time around, but he’s still interested in getting that fight made.

Loeffler says he’d like to put the Golovkin-Eubank Jr. fight together for December after GGG takes care of business against welterweight Kell Brook on September 10.
