By Yannis Mihanos: In reaching higher standards you must always take higher risks. This is exactly what unbeaten welterweight Kell “the Special” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has decided to do.

Brook decided to aim higher than what the Welterweight division has for him to offer and face the one and only IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC 160lb champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0 ,32 KOs), one of the most feared opponent in the middleweight division and the reason is obvious: Golovkin has dismantled most of his opponents, he has pushed them into the abyss. Golovkin and Brook will be fighting in less than two months from now on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

The fighting fans care mostly for a good competitive fight. And yes a few months ago another Englishman, Amir Khan gave his best against Canelo but was that fight at all competitive? In my eyes it certainly wasn’t. Khan after only a few rounds was destroyed by Canelo, the bigger man clearly won.

Because history often repeats, for Brook’s sake I hope he has a really good plan for the fight, one that will keep him in the fight competitive and strong not just for the first few rounds but for all the fight. Otherwise it will be like cheating. Cheating of our time and money spending for the fight.

When fighters step up and take risks is good. Of course risks do not always work out good but that’s not the point. The point is for fighters not to be just fighters but warriors.

Warriors go where no common fighters go and take risky challenges if necessary. To fight Golovkin at his peak today it takes guts and is a serious challenge. One that others do not dare to take or delay it as much as possible.

I praise for this decision Brook, it certainly has turned my attention to him, it certainly has turned many people’s attention too.

On the other hand, it is evident that Golovkin needs brave strong opposition to push him to his limits and see finally whether he is or not an immortal.

On the days to come, qualities such as skills, strengths and weaknesses will get under the microscope for both of the fighters by boxing experts and many writers and fans from around the world.

Destiny waits for Kell Brook at the O2 Arena in London, England on September 10 and whether it will be bright or dim, we will have to wait and see…
