Angel Garcia thinks Thurman-Porter shouldn’t fight now

thurman444444By Danny Esch: If you are a real boxing fan that cares about the longevity of the sport and you understand and respect the history of the sport of boxing than you should be concerned about the recent statements made by Angel Garcia.

For those of you out there that don’t know who Angel Garcia is he is the father and trainer of undefeated former light weight champion Danny Garcia. Garcia has just stepped foot into the welterweight division with just two fights under his belt at the welterweight division but surprisingly he is already ranked at #2 WBC, #3 WBA, #8 Ring.

Danny Garcia became a rising star after he knocked out Amir Khan in a fight that he was suppose to lose but instead he came out of the fight victorious and has sailed into the sunset ever since.

Thurman: “Kenny Porter talks too much; I’m the CHAMPION and I Have the Power”!

thurman7777By Danny Esch: The long anticipated fight between Keith “One Time” Thurman and Shawn “Show Time” Porter is finally approaching us. Last year in 2015 the fight was suppose to take place in December to close out the year with a bang for PBC but the fight was then postponed. It was in fact a mystery as to what really transpired between the two camps and their promoter Al Haymon.

In my opinion the mystery became a fully fledged “mystery” because Thurman created a very talkative persona during his rise in the boxing community but when a dangerous fight such as this one was mentioned the champion disappeared. Thurman was known as an up and coming fighter who was very vocal and ferocious in the ring but calm and collected outside of the ring.

Today it seems though that Thurman has reappeared once again and as in the past he also has become vocal again which is what most fans love about him.

Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter likely moved to March 12

thurman8888By Dan Ambrose: The potential fight between WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and #4 WBA Shawn “Showtime” Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) will likely be moved to March 12, according to Lance Pugmire of the LA Times.

The reason why it will be moved from Mach 5th is because of UFC 197 taking place on that night with Conor McGregor vs. Rafael Dos Anjos and Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate. It would be too much competition for viewers if Thurman-Porter were to take place on March 5.

“Was told earlier today the Keith ThurmanJr @ShowtimeShawnP fight would likely be moved to March 12 due to the fact McGregor going March 5,” Pugmire said on his Twitter.

Fighters that need to perform in 2016

1-canelo-cotto (8)By Al Classico: 2015 was a very big and eventful year in boxing which saw the biggest financial fight finally come to fruition as well loads of great match ups and many strong fight of the year candidates taking place.

2016 has a lot to live up to but the good news is that there are some great fights on the horizon for the boxing fans. Hopefully, we will see fights such as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez v Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, Andre Ward v Sergey Kovalev, Manny Pacquiao v Sergey Crawford, and hopefully some of the top welterweights will finally be paired up to fight each other.

Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter possible for late February

thurman8888By Dan Ambrose: Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) and WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) could be facing each other in late February on the 20th or 27th, according to Fighthype. The two of them definitely will be fighting each other. The only thing that needs to be established is what date the fight will take place.

Porter and his father/trainer Kenny Porter are a little frustrated at how long it’s taken to get the 27-year-old “One Time” Thurman into the ring, as they wanted to face him in December to get it over with.

They feel pretty confident that Thurman’s chin will betray him in this fight, and they can’t wait to get it over with. Thurman has looked vulnerable when standing in the pocket against fighters with any kind of punching power, and Porter would appear to be a bad match-up for him.

Thurman will need to run, hold or fight Shawn, says Kenny P

thurman7777By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Kenny Porter is still waiting for WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) to make the call to get the fight done with Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) for a fight in 2016. Kenny is starting to think that the 27-year-old Thurman is reluctant to take the fight because he’s starting to realize what he’ll need to go through in getting in the ring with a pit-bull like Porter.

Kenny says that Porter is going to go after Thurman and force him to make critical decisions how he wants to survive the situation. Kenny sees it as a case where Thurman will need to run, hold and fight.

“He [Thurman] has not signed the deal,” Kenny Porter said to Knockoutnews. “As far as the date, we’ll do it anytime they’re ready. It doesn’t matter where they want to fight at. We’re in shape to go in six weeks. We can fight in four weeks.

Keith Thurman named Premier Boxing Champions ‘Fighter of the Year’

thurman45689By Dan Ambrose: Despite fighting only twice in 2015, WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) has been named Premier Boxing Champions ‘Fighter of the Year.’ According to Fight News, Thurman beat out Deontay Wilder, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter and Leo Santa Cruz to get the award.

There was not much in the way of competition for Thurman in winning the award, it would seem. None of those fighters had great a great year in terms of the fighters they faced. Wilder was a little busier than the rest of the bunch in beating Bermane Stiverne, Eric Molina and Johann Duhaupas.

Thurman defeated Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and Luis Collazo in 2015. Those are not journeyman level fighters yet, but they also are not major players in the welterweight division.

Porter vs. Thurman: Young Lions finally let out to play

thurman2By J Caldwell: If boxing truly is a young man’s sport, then a probable match-up between Shawn “Showtime” Porter (26-1-1, 16 KO) and Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KO) looks to be an exciting one. In complete deference to the older lions of the pride, including Timothy “The Desert Storm” Bradley, Amir “King” Kahn and Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, a possible showdown between boxing’s newer crop of talent (i.e., Thurman, Porter, Kell Brooks, Adrien Broner, Danny Garcia and, of course, Errol Spence) could perhaps set the stage for a glimpse of what’s to come in the welterweight division, a division which for now as it stand appears stacked with all kinds of boxing talent.

Cautionary tales abound. Whenever you allow “big cats” to roam the boxing landscape, things could end up getting pretty messy. What we as diehard boxing fans could end up witnessing within the short foreseeable future is a kind of boxing renaissance of sort; whereby, the torch as kindled from TBE’s “skills win fights” boxing era is pass on to a newer generation of younger, hungrier lions both willing and able to inflict damage on to each other.

Thurman vs. Porter likely to be moved to 2016

thurman7777By Tim Fletcher: According to reports, the much talked about contest between WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman and Showtime Shawn Porter is being moved to 2016 rather than taking place on December 12th like what was talked about. The Thurman-Porter fight could take place on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports, according to RingTV.

The idea in moving the Thurman vs. Porter fight to 2016 is that it will give more time to build the fight to make it a bigger fight. If the Thurman-Porter fight were to take place in December, it wouldn’t give enough time to make it a huge fight.

Porter unsure if Thurman will face him

porter44By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) has been waiting for ages for WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) to agree to the fight in order for them to face each other on December 5th.

Porter is eager to get the 26-year-old Thurman in the ring because he sees vulnerability there that he feels he can expose in front of the world on Showtime to take his title. It’s unclear why Thurman is taking his time to take the fight, but Porter says if he doesn’t agree to the fight, then he’ll move on and face someone else.
