Keith Thurman

By Allan Fox: Despite barely beating Shawn Porter last month in their fight on June 25, WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) now believes he’s a star in the 147lb division.

Thurman, 27, says Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are both in the past, and he’s now part of the new generation of fighters. Thurman sees a shift going on with fans as they now are starting to realize that Mayweather and Pacquiao are part of the old guard that are gone, and that he is now one of the guys that will be taking their place.

Keith Thurman vs. Errol Spence Jr. who wins?

spence

By Jaime Ortega: The boxing fans expect the welterweight division to soon blow up with spectacular fights. A few welterweights are well tested, and others need more time. A few boxing fans accuse Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman of ducking Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence Jr. The common perception of the casual fan is that Keith avoids Spence because he knows he would lose via brutal body knockout in the late rounds.

Errol Spence Jr. has actively called out Thurman since late last year. As a result of openly calling out Thurman, Errol fans have started to express publically in forums and comments that Thurman is a coward and a duck.

For Errol fans, the fight with Shawn Porter exposed Thurman’s weakness as a boxer, doubting his power level and boxing ability – it wasn’t enough.

Porter wants Garcia, Berto or Rios, Molina or Provodnikov

Image: Porter wants Garcia, Berto or Rios, Molina or Provodnikov

By Allan Fox: Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs) is hoping WBA World 147lb belt holder Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) will give him a rematch so that he can avenge his 12 round unanimous decision loss from June 25. Thurman is Porter’s No.1 target for his next fight if he can get it. However, if Porter can’t get a second fight against Thurman right away, he’d like to get a fight against one of the following fighters: Danny Garcia, Andre Berto, Brandon Rios, John Molina or Ruslan Provodnikov.

Porter can be back inside the ring within the next three months, according to his trainer/father Kenny Porter. That’s an incredibly quick turnaround for a fighter that took as much punishment as Porter did.

Keith Thurman, Boxing’s new Bright Star!

Image: Keith Thurman, Boxing's new Bright Star!

By Leigh K. Seto: As a long time fan of the sweet science and somewhat of a historian of the sport, I was pleased to see the Premier Boxing Champions match up last Saturday night on June 25 between WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) and Shawn Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight was televised on Showtime Boxing on CBS. It’s rare to see two fighters that are on the rise going toe to toe with each other and taking challenges that other top fighters seem to avoid. The Thurman vs Porter delivered on the hype an we were all watching.

Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter both have an old school style of fighting. With more engaged assaults which captivate and inspire their audience. Like the millions of viewers I was glued to my seat avoiding the occasional fridge trips and idle conversation this fight was exciting from the opening bell.

Image: Keith Thurman doesn't want to fight on PPV

By Dan Ambrose: WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman said recently that he doesn’t want to fight on pay-per-view, because he wants more boxing fans to see him fight. Thurman, 27, thinks that too many boxing events wind up on PPV nowadays, and he doesn’t like the idea of the fans having to pay to see him fight.

Thurman says he’s not looking to gauge the boxing fans by asking them to pay extra money to see him fight on top of the money that they’re already paying to get the premium channels each month like Showtime and/or HBO.

Hearn: Kell Brook is better than Thurman

brook91111

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) and WBA 147lb champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) could be facing each other in the future if Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn has anything to do with it. Hearn wants to match Brook against Thurman in a unification match if Brook can beat WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas in their fight in September.

Hearn likes Brook’s chances of beating Thurman to take his WBA strap. Indeed, Hearn thinks Brook is a better fighter than Thurman. I’m not sure that I agree with Hearn, but then again, I’ve seen Brook fight many times. I saw how Brook was out on his feet in the 12th round against Carson Jones in 2012. Somehow, I don’t think Thurman would ever be hurt by Jones, but Brook sure was.

Thurman-Porter, Joshua-Breazeale ratings numbers

Thurman vs Porter

By Allan Fox: Last Saturday night’s card headlined by the welterweight clash between WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman and Shawn Porter brought in tremendous ratings on Showtime Boxing on CBS from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The Thurman vs. Porter main event averaged 3.1 million viewers, according to Dan Rafael. The card itself averaged 2.4 million viewers. Those are tremendous ratings.

Having welterweights as good as Thurman and Porter face each other is a rare thing in the sport nowadays. The fight fans in the U.S saw this fight as an interesting one, so they gladly tuned in to see it. What helped matters is there was a great deal of marketing of the Thurman-Porter fight ahead of time. The fans knew the fight was taking place last Saturday, so the fans tuned in to see it in large numbers.

How will Keith Thurman pair-up against Pacquiao or Mayweather?

thurman86r

By Jaime Ortega: Keith Thurman after convincingly out-pointing Shawn Porter with accurate counter-shots, has come under criticism from a certain faction of the boxing scene who accuse the Floridian for setting a poor performance in the ring, thus exposing his real flaws.

To start, I would like to point that Shawn has the highest pressure ratio of any boxer in the game. He is very athletic and has decent boxing ability that includes a good chin. No fighter today, would be able to knockout Shawn or calm the tempest he brings in the ring. His style of fight, does not allow for high IQ boxers to think and forces them to run and hide behind the ropes. If you fight Shawn, is the equivalent of Marcos Maidana in Super-Saiyan version.

Keith Thurman thinks Pacquiao and Mayweather fights are possible

Image: Keith Thurman thinks Pacquiao and Mayweather fights are possible

By Dan Ambrose: With his narrow 12 round unanimous decision victory over Shawn Porter on June 25, WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) is talking about wanting to fight a unification match against WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

If Keith can’t get Garcia, then he wants to take on one of the other welterweights champions in IBF belt holder Kell Brook or WBO champion Jessie Vargas. Those two titles will be unified after Brook and Vargas fight each other in September, so there’s a possibility for Thurman to get two titles at once if he can face the winner of that fight.

Thurman wants Danny Garcia, hopes to take his WBC strap

Image: Thurman wants Danny Garcia, hopes to take his WBC strap

By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) is still talking about wanting to get a unification fight against WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs), because he wants his WBC 147lb title, which had previously been in the possession of superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr.

Thurman was never given a fight by Mayweather, and he still seems to be a little perturbed about that. Thurman feels that by beating Garcia and taking his WBC title, he’ll have his name connected with that belt due to it previously belonging to Floyd.
