Juergen Braehmer faces Thomas Oosthuizen on March 12

braehmer444(Photo Credit: Sebastian Heger) By Scott Gilfoid: WBA “regular” light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (47-2, 35 KOs) will be making a voluntary defense of his title in two months from now against #9 WBA Thomas Oosthuizen (25-0-1, 14 KOs) on March 12 at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany.

The 37-year-old Braehmer isn’t the WBA’s top champion. He’s a junior champion or paper champion in the minds of some boxing fans. Unfortunately, Braehmer has been matched like a paper champions since he won the vacant WBA World 175lb title in December 2013 in beating Marcus Oliveira by a 12 round unanimous decision.

Juergen Braehmer vs. Thomas Oosthuizen on November 7th

braehmer4By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (47-2, 35 KOs) will be taking an easy voluntary defense next month against #9 WBA Thomas Oosthuizen (25-0-2, 14 KOs) on November 7th at the Salle des Étoiles, in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Thill be the 37-year-old Braehmer’s second straight voluntary defense after his 9th round knockout of little known contender Konni Konrad in his last fight in September.

Braehmer last defended against a mandatory challenger last March when he defeated Robert Krasniqi. That was the World Boxing Association that gave Krasniqi a high ranking based on some wins over fluff opponents. Why the WBA didn’t have talents like Artur Beterbiev, Andrzej Fonfara, Jean Pascal, Bernard Hopkins, Sullivan Barrera and Yunieski Gonzalez ranked above a limited fighter like Krasniqi is anyone’s guess.

Heck, even now the WBA has a weird ranking by Felix Valera as their No.1 contender rather than a good fighter like one of the above talents. What that means is that once Braehmer takes care of the 27-year-old Oosthuizen next month on November 27th, then Braehmer will have another easy defense against Valera as his mandatory.

Braehmer defeats Konrad

braehmer5By Jim Dower: WBA World light heavyweight title holder Juergen Braehmer (47-2, 35 KOs) had an easy time dominating his opponent #7 WBA Konni Konrad (22-2, 11 KOs) in stopping him in the 8th round on Saturday night at the EnergieVerbund Arena in Dresden Germany. The 30-year-old Konrad quit on his stool after the 7th round had ended.

Braehmer, 36, knocked Konrad down with a right hook in the 6th round. It was one of the rare instances in the fight where Konrad attempted to do anything. Braehmer timed him and knocked him down with a perfect shot.

Konrad didn’t have enough punching power or hand speed to trouble Braehmer at all in this fight. When Konrad did land an odd shot here and there, Braehmer always responded with bigger shots in return that caused Konrad to back off and get on the inside. The fight resembled a sparring match rather than an actual fight.

Juergen Braehmer vs. Konni Konrad this Saturday, September 5th in Dresden, Germany

braehmer336By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (46-2, 34 KOs) will be defending his title this Saturday against 30-year-old #7 WBA Konni Konrad (22-1-1, 11 KOs) in a voluntary defense at the Energie Verbund-Arena, Dresden, Sachsen.

This is pretty much a tremendous mismatch similar to Braehmer’s recent mismatches in his last three fights against Robin Krasniqi, Pawel Glazewski, Roberto Feliciano Bolonti, and Enzo Maccarinelli.

Juergen Braehmer vs. Konni Konrad on September 5th in Dresden, Germany

braehmer336By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (46-2, 34 KOs) will be making a soft defense of his WBA title on September 5th against German based #13 WBA Konni Konrad (22-1-1, 11 KOs) at the Freiberger Arena, in Dresden, Sachsen, Germany.

For the 36-year-old Braehmer, this is his fifth easy defense of his title since he captured it in 2013 in beating Marcus Oliveira by a 12 round decision. If Braehmer beats the 29-year-old Konrad, which would seem very likely, he’ll be defending his title against another fringe contender in #11 WBC Nathan Cleverly.

Cleverly agrees to terms for Braehmer world title shot

cleverly6777By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (28-2, 14 KOs) has agreed to terms for a fight against WBA World 175 pound champion Juergen Braehmer (46-2, 34 KOs) provided that Cleverly gets through his May 30th tune-up fight against an opponent still to be determined at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Cleverly will have to travel to Germany to take the fight with the German native Braehmer because he’s got the WBA title. Cleverly is just a challenger. The World Boxing Association actually has two champions at 175.

Nathan Cleverly wants Braehmer fight in September

cleverly567By Scott Gilfoid: After watching WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (46-2, 34 KOs) obliterate an over-matched and very, very limited Robin Krasniqi (43-4, 16 KOs) last Saturday night at the Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, former WBO 175lb champion Nathan Cleverly (28-2, 14 KOs) says he wants to fight the 36-year-old Braehmer in September if he can get a fight against the Sauerland promoted German fighter.

Cleverly’s promoter Eddie Hearn would have to make the fight, and it remains to be seen whether he can do that.
