Both fights seem like a long shot for Chavez Jr. to win, as he’s looked dreadful in four of his last fights against the B level opposition that he’s been put in with.

By Jason Kim: With the news today that World Boxing Council junior middleweight/WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez was planning on vacating his WBC junior middleweight title, this creates a big opportunity for number #1 ranked WBC contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) to fight for the vacant junior middleweight title in the near future, if Chavez can get by John Duddy on June 26th in their fight for the obscure WBC Silver middleweight title at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas.

Duddy, 30, does really well against slow plodders like Chavez Jr. that like to slug and are there to be hit all night long. Chavez has gone to the trouble to sign on with trainer Freddie Roach in hopes of becoming a better fighter or least good enough to beat the likes of Duddy.

Chavez, 24, has fought no one near as good as the 30-year-old Duddy, and has looked dreadful at times against the B level fighters Chavez has fought in his career. Recently, Chavez Jr. decided to start training with Freddie Roach, the trainer that has worked wonders with Manny Pacquiao and number of other fighters.

By Jim Dower: I figure that middleweight contender John Duddy (29-1, 18 KO’s) will be far too experienced and talented for unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) when they do battle later on this month for the obscure vacant WBC Silver middleweight title on June 26th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas.
I see Duddy as being far too good for the 24-year-old Chavez to beat. However, I worry that Duddy may not get the decision no matter what he does in the ring on that night. San Antonio is pretty much a home town advantage for the Mexican Chavez Jr., and he’s got the much bigger name, thanks to his famous father Julio Cesar Chavez.

The WBC Silver title seems almost fitting for this fight, as it’s an obscure title for a fight against two guys that are decent not quite as good as their records would seem to indicate. However, it should still be an excellent fight if Chavez Jr. can rise up to the occasion and fight at a higher level than what he’s shown against soft opposition that he’s been matched up against during his seven year pro career.

It’s kind of a scary thought, but a reality none the less. The 24-year-old Chavez Jr., the son of boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez, has a fight coming up against middleweight contender John Duddy on June 26th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. If Chavez wins that fight, then he would likely be put in with the winner of the Cotto-Foreman fight by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

This fight has some significance in that the two fighters are both ranked in their respective divisions and need the win to move forward for bigger money fights in the future. In the case of Chavez, this is a huge fight because he could be in line for a big money stadium fight against Miguel Cotto in the near future if everything goes right for him.
