Arum: Marquez could fight Pacquiao or Bradley in April 2015

marquez44444By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is saying that 41-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) could possibly be facing one of his Top Rank fighters in WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao or Tim Bradley in April of 2015, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Arum says that Marquez will be sitting out the last two months of 2014 to wait for a fight in the first quarter of 2015.

Arum would obviously love to put Marquez in with the 35-year-old Pacquiao for a 5th fight between them, because Pacquiao hasn’t had a fight that drew 1 million pay-per-view buys since his last fight against Marquez in 2012. Having Marquez as Pacquiao’s opponent in early 2015 will pretty much guarantee at least 1 million PPV buys.

Juan Manuel Marquez to fight in early 2015, says Arum

marquez777aBy Chris Williams: Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) will be back in the ring in early 2015, according to Steve Kim.

Marquez, 41, doesn’t have an opponent picked out as of yet, but he’s made no secret of the fact that he’d like to fight for a world title against one of the welterweight champions. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would very much like for #1 WBO Marquez to fight his money fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in a 5th fight between them.

Mayweather: Pacquiao lost to Marquez because he was focused on me

jmm_ko_pacBy Raj Parmar: Pound for pound number one Floyd Mayweather (46-0, 26 KO’s) has responded to the recent rumors flowing in the boxing world regarding a potential mega-fight between himself and Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s).

Mayweather took the opportunity while responding to the rumors to subtlety jab at Manny regarding his brutal knockout loss a couple years ago to Juan Manuel Marquez.

Marquez: Maidana can hurt Mayweather with Everlast MX gloves

marquez7By Raj Parmar: Four division champion and future Hall of Famer Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KO’s) has provided his take on the heavily documented glove issue surrounding Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana. Back in May, Floyd had rejected two pairs of Everlast MX gloves that Maidana wanted to use for the fight and instead demanded Marcos wear Everlast Powerlock gloves.

With the biggest payday of his career in jeopardy, Maidana was not in a position to walk away from the fight and begrudgingly used the Powerlock gloves. Marquez recently tried on the MX gloves and acknowledged that Maidana would no doubt be a much more dangerous opponent for Floyd with the MX gloves on. The Powerlock gloves are made of all foam while the MX model is made using a combination of foam and horse hair.

Pacquiao vs. Marquez 5 is Arum’s best bet for big PPV fight in 2015

pac006By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would like nothing better than to match his money fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) in 2015 in what would be far the biggest payday of the 35-year-old Pacquiao’s career.

Since the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight obviously isn’t going to happen for many reasons, Arum wants to set Pacquiao up for a 5th fight against aging warrior Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) in what could be a big enough fight to bring Pacquiao’s deteriorating pay-per-view numbers back up to the 1 million mark that he used to hit every time he fought for a span of two years.

Arum wants Pacquiao-Mayweather and Pacquiao-Marquez 5 in 2015

arum0By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) hasn’t even gotten past the tough as nails Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) for their fight scheduled on November 22nd, and already Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is talking about the next fight he wants to match Pacquiao against after that one.

Arum specifically wants to put a fifth fight together between Pacquiao and 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez. Arum previously had hoped to put the Pacquiao-Marquez 5 fight together for November, but they couldn’t get Marquez to agree to take the fight.

Marquez could face Brook-Porter winner in Mexico in late 2014

marquez000005By Chris Williams: Fernando Beltran, the promoter for former 4 division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs), is hoping to get the winner of the August 16th fight between IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) and challenger Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KOs), to agree to come to Mexico in late 2014 to face Marquez.

Beltran wants to help put the soon to be 41-year-old Marquez in a position where he can capture a 5th division world title. That’s one of the last remaining goals that Marquez has before he steps away from the sport.

Marquez is probably too small to continue past that to try and capture a 6th division world title at 154. Manny Pacquiao was able to win the WBC 154 pound title, but it was under the ideal conditions given that he faced the slow Antonio Margarito in a catch-weight fight at 150 to fight for the then vacant WBC junior middleweight title in 2010 rather than facing some of the guys that were ranked higher than Margarito at the time in the WBC’s rankings like Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan.

The Myth becomes a Legend #1

khan34By C. Noriega: There was a time when being a warrior was not a task anyone could fulfill, hell no. Back in the day, a man had to prove his skills and wisdom against powerful gladiators for the simple right to live.

The good thing is we no longer live in those days, however, we still have a game and it is called boxing. In this article, I’ll discuss some cases of modern legends, old heroes, and false gladiators who fight their way to become legends in this chess like match called boxing.

#1. The strange case of Amir Khan.
There was a time when I, like many others, thought Amir could become the next big thing in boxing. Amir’s speed,  power and accuracy in the lightweight and light-welterweight division led him to be a major contender and many believed he was the one who could stop Mayweather’s reign.

Marquez to be offered Pacquiao 5th fight in 2015

marquez5By Chris Williams: It seems that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum hasn’t given up on the idea of getting 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) to agree to a 5th fight with his No.1 money fighter Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) after failing to agree to the rumored $20 million asking price that Marquez wanted for him to fight Pacquiao on November 22nd this year.

Arum wants to set up a fifth fight between Marquez and Pacquiao in early 2015. If the fight fails to happen at that time then that’s going to likely be the end of any chances of them ever fighting again, because Marquez is said to be retiring in 2015.

Marquez thinks Canelo can stop Lara

canelo1111By Dan Ambrose: Mexican star Juan Manuel Marquez thinks that former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KOs) has the power and the speed to score a knockout in his requested catch-weight fight of 155 pounds against Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) next Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Marquez still sees Lara presenting a lot of problems for Canelo with his boxing ability, but he thinks that if Canelo uses his intelligence, he’ll be able to knock the taller, faster Lara out in this fight.
