By Eric Thomas: Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) will finally be getting back in the ring on March 12th when he takes on 33-year-old Calvin Green (21-5-1, 13 KO’s) in a 10 round bout on the undercard of the WBA clash between junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto vs. Ricardo Mayorga at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Clottey, 33, should be well rested after taking it easy since being defeated by Manny Pacquiao in a one-sided 12 round decision loss in March 2010.

Will Arum let Juan Manuel Marquez fight Pacquiao if he takes on Clottey or Margarito?

Image: Will Arum let Juan Manuel Marquez fight Pacquiao if he takes on Clottey or Margarito?By Chris Williams: Recently, Bob Arum, the promoter for Manny Pacquiao, suggested that if Juan Manuel Marquez were to prove himself by facing and beating WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto it could help him get a fight against Pacquiao. Would Arum feel the same way if Marquez were to take one of his Top Rank stable fighters Antonio Margarito or Joshua Clottey? Goodness knows, both of them could certainly use a big win right now at this point of their careers given that each of them were just humiliated by Pacquiao in one-sided 12 round decisions.

Arum says Clottey not interested in fighting for less than $500,000

By Jason Kim: Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) is reportedly looking for a big money fight, but the problem is there’s no one out there that will guarantee him a big enough payday for him to get off the couch and start fighting again. According to Dan Rafael, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says Clottey isn’t interested in fighting for less than $500,000.

Margarito: “Clottey was hurting Pacquiao”

Image: Margarito: "Clottey was hurting Pacquiao"By Chris Williams: Antonio Margarito has spotted some weakness in his opponent Manny Pacquiao, saying in an article at the Orange County Register “Clottey was hurting Pacquiao but he didn’t throw punches. You have to throw punches. You have to keep it up. You can’t wait for him.” Margarito is right. Clottey was doing a number on Pacquiao with the 10 or so shots he was hitting him with in every round. If Clottey had just upped his work rate x 5, he would have likely busted Pacquiao up to the point where he would have gone down or the referee would have stopped it. Margarito hits just as hard as Clottey, but throws many more punches than him.

Clottey to move up in weight to the junior middleweight division

Image: Clottey to move up in weight to the junior middleweight divisionBy Dan Ambrose: Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) reportedly will be moving up in weight to first the junior middleweight division and then to the middleweight division because he’s finding harder and harder to to make the welterweight 147 pound limit. Clottey, 33, at one time was a knockout puncher at welterweight, but has only two knockouts in the last six years. Clottey’s mysterious lack of power is due to him having to boil down to make the 147 pound weight limit for the welterweight division.

Juan Manuel Marquez needs to fight Clottey if he wants a shot against Pacquiao

By William Mackay: Bob Arum, the promoter for Manny Pacquiao, has said more than once that if Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s) wants a third fight against Pacquiao, Marquez needs to prove himself against a top welterweight like Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) or World Boxing Council welterweight champion Andre Berto. I think the key name here is Clottey. That’s probably who Arum is really hoping Marquez will fight next. Given that Arum promotes Clottey, I think that’s the fight that Marquez needs to take if he wants to try and fight Pacquiao one more time. Clottey needs a big name right now to try and get his career back on track after his poor showing against Pacquiao in March, and there’s probably not going to be anyone even slightly popular interested in fighting Clottey now.
