Chavez Jr. TKOs Manfredo; Clottey stops Green
By Dan Ambrose: A huge looking WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1, 31 KO’s) defeated hand-picked opponent Peter Manfredo Jr. (37-7, 20 KO’s) in a 5th round stoppage tonight at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. Chavez Jr. hurt Manfredo with a right hand in the 5th and then flurried on him until referee Lawrence Cole stopped the fight. It looked like a really premature stoppage, however, as Manfredo may have been able to recover.
Chavez Jr. vs. Manfredo Jr. & Clottey vs. Green tonight
By Dan Ambrose: Tonight in a Top Rank card, WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (43-0-1, 30 KO’s) will be putting his World Boxing Council title and unbeaten record on the line against #4 ranked contender Peter Manfredo Jr. (37-6, 20 KOs) at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. The fight will be aired on HBO likely due to Chavez’s popularity among Hispanic fans. The card is kind of weak. The Chavez-Manfredo and Clottey-Green are really poor fights in my opinion, but I can understand why they were made. Chavez Jr. is a weak champion and Clottey hasn’t fought in ages.

Joshua Clottey missing in action: 16 months of inactivity
By Jason Kim: It’s been 16 months since former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) got a career payday in losing by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao last year in March, and there’s no telling when or if Clottey will ever return to the ring. Supposedly, Clottey was training to fight recently and was injured doing some road work. You have to wonder if the huge payday Clottey received in the Pacquiao bout took away his ambition to continue fighting.
Clottey vs. Green on 3/12: Joshua looking for another title shot
By Michael Lieberman: It’s been almost a year since Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) last stepped into the ring when he was totally dominated by Manny Pacquiao in one of the most boring mega fights in memory. Clottey has had an entire year to lick his wounds from the Pacquiao defeat and figure out what he’s going to do with his career. On March 12th, Clottey fights Calvin Green (21-5-1, 13 KO’s) in junior middleweight action.
Clottey-Green on 3/12: Joshua looks to end two-fight losing streak
By Jim Dower: Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) will be fighting on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Ricardo Mayorga fight card on March 12th in a 10 round bout against junior middleweight Calvin Green (21-5-1, 13 KO’s) at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Clottey, 33, lost his last two fights to Cotto and Manny Pacquiao. The Pacquiao fight was a particularly bad one for Clottey, because he looked like he wasn’t even trying to win.
Clottey vs. Green: Joshua sees action on Cotto-Mayorga undercard
By Jason Kim: Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) will be getting back in the ring on March 12th against Calvin Green (21-5-1, 13 KO’s) in a 10 round bout on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Ricardo Mayorga fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Clottey, 33, will be moving up to junior middleweight for this fight and should in theory have more strength because of that. Clottey believes his power has disappeared because of the weight he has to take off each time he would fight at welterweight.
Clottey vs. Green: Will Arum hook Joshua up with another title shot soon?
By Dave Lahr: It didn’t take much for Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) to get a title shot against WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in March 2010. All Clottey had to do was take on Miguel Cotto, get beaten and then presto, Clottey was put in with Pacquiao for his WBO strap. Of course, Clottey lost in a miserable 12 round decision performance, and looked like an obedient sparring partner.
