By Scott Gilfoid: After his arguably very, very tainted win over an injured David Haye last Saturday, Tony Bellew will be getting a title shot against WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker if the New Zealander defeats challenger Hughie Fury in their upcoming fight. Parker was planning on facing WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder after he takes care of business against the light hitting Hughie, but now he’s turned his sights towards Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KOs) after his 11th round TKO victory over Haye last Saturday.

Hearn hopes to match Bellew against Wilder or Parker

By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Eddie Hearn is interested in putting his fighter Tony Bellew in world title fight next following his 11th round stoppage win over an injured David Haye last Saturday night. Bellew beat Haye after he suffered an Achilles injury to his right leg. Haye limped around the ring from rounds 6 until 11, when he was stopped.

Rather than waiting for Haye to heal and putting Bellew back in with him to prove that he can beat a healthy Haye, Hearn wants to match Bellew against one of the heavyweight world champions. Hearn says he’d like to match Bellew against either WBC champion Deontay Wilder or WBO champ Joseph Parker. Hearn feels confident that he’ll be able to get one of those two to agree to the fight.

Image: Hughie Fury signs contract for Joseph Parker fight

By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBO Hughie Fury (20-0, 10 KOs) has signed the contract for his title fight against WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (22-0, 18 KOs). Hughie’s trainer/father Peter Fury ha confirmed that the contract has been signed for the Parker fight. The deadline for Hughie to sign the contract was at 12 p.m. on Friday, according to WBO president Paco Valcarcel.

If Hughie hadn’t signed the contract for the fight by that time, Parker would have been allowed to take a voluntary defense. Hughie would have missed his chance for the title shot. That wouldn’t have been good for Hughie. He did not look solid in his last fight against Fred Kassi.

Joshua will need to win his April 29 fight against Wladimir Klitschko for the Parker-Joshua fight to take place.

There had been talk of Parker possibly facing WBC champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder in a unification fight next, but it looks like Parker’s management are keen on the Joshua fight after they take care of young Hughie.

Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury could take place in Manchester

Image: Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury could take place in Manchester

By Scott Gilfoid: The management for WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (22-0, 18 KOs) is kicking around the idea of staging his next title defense against #2 WBO Hughie Fury (20-0, 10 KOs) in Hughie’s home city of Manchester, England in April. The reason for that is in order to build the 25-year-old Parker’s brank in the UK and to take advantage of the large pay-per-view market.

There are several popular British heavyweights in Anthony Joshua, David Haye and Tyson Fury that Parker could face at some point in the near future. Even former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury might come out of the woodwork to try and avenge Hughie’s loss to Parker. I could see that fight happening.
