Jermain Taylor faces Juan Carlos Candelo this Saturday in San Antonio, Texas

taylor3223By Eric Thomas: Former IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (31-4-1, 19 KO’s) will be back in the ring for the first time in over a year this Saturday night in his fight against Juan Carlos Candelo (32-12-4, 21 KO’s) at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

The 35-year-old Taylor is coming back to try and capture another world title at 160, but his chances aren’t good. Taylor hasn’t been a force in the middleweight division in the past 5 years since his back to back losses to Kelly Pavlik.

“They’re looking at me and they’re saying that same thing, that I can’t come back and win a world title,” Taylor said to RingTV. “But we’ll see who will have the last laugh.”

Jermain Taylor vs. J.C Candelo on December 14th

taylor3423423By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (31-3-1, 19 KO’s) will be fighting on December 14th against 39-year-old journeyman J.C Candelo (32-12-4, 21 KO’s) on the undercard of the Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana fight card on Showtime at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Presumably, the 35-year-old Taylor vs. Candelo fight will be the replacement fight for the loss of Victor Ortiz vs. Alfonso Gomez, which fell apart after Gomez suffered an injury and had to drop out of the fight. Golden Boy Promotions then moved Ortiz off the Broner-Maidana card and matched him against Luis Collazo on January 30th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Cleverly skewers Froch; reminding him how Dirrell, Ward & Taylor out-boxed him

froch7By Scott Gilfoid: Tired of IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) turning down fights against him, WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (26-0, 12 KO’s) decided to give it to Froch with both barrels on Tuesday, blasting him for failing to accept the offer to fight him and reminding him how he was out-boxed by Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler in the past.

Cleverly’s promoter Frank Warren is saying he offered Froch 2.5 million pounds. That’s some serious green.

Peter Quillin vs. Jermain Taylor on Garcia-Judah undercard on 1/19

Image: Peter Quillin vs. Jermain Taylor on Garcia-Judah undercard on 1/19By Dan Ambrose: Steve Kim is reporting on his twitter page that Golden Boy is setting up a card on January 19th headlined by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) defending his titles against 34-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, USA. On the undercard will be former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (31-4-1, 19 KO’s) facing WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (28-0, 20 KO’s).

What’s so interesting about this card is that both fights involve past their prime fighters taking on guys – Garcia and Quillin – in the prime of their career. I’m not so excited about either fight, although I’m not surprised that the fights are being made because Golden Boy has a couple of vulnerable champions in Garcia and Quillin. They’ve got to match them carefully because if they put them in with the wrong opponent then neither of these fighters will be champions.

Mack: Dirrell and Ward beat Froch, Taylor was in the process of beating him

Image: Mack: Dirrell and Ward beat Froch, Taylor was in the process of beating himBy Scott Gilfoid: Light heavyweight Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) sees a lot of weaknesses in IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s game as they move towards their showdown next month on November 17th at the Capital FM Arena, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. Mack, 32, spotted some serious flaws in Froch’s game in his fights against American talents Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward and Jermain Taylor, all of which were able to out-box Froch for long stretches of those fights.

Mack said on Sky Sports Ringside “I believe I’m one of the top fighters. I feel that a guy that can box, Froch has trouble with. Dirrell, he [Froch] lost. Ward, he lost. Jermain Taylor, he was losing but he caught Jermain.”

Jermain Taylor vs. journeyman Raul Munoz on October 12th on Showtime

Image: Jermain Taylor vs. journeyman Raul Munoz on October 12th on ShowtimeBy Dan Ambrose: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (30-4-1, 18 KO’s) will be finally getting back in the ring after a six month absence to fight 36-year-old journeyman Raul Munoz (22-15-1, 16 KO’s) on October 12th in a televised fight on Showtime at the Ameristar Casino in Saint Charles, Missouri.

Now here’s the kicker: The Taylor-Munoz fight will only have brief clips of the fight shown to fans, as the main event will be Puerto Rican super featherweight prospect Jose Pedraza (10-0, 6 KO’s) facing Allan Benitez (7-1, 1 KO’s) and the co main event will be middleweight prospect Jonathan Cepeda (12-0, 11 KO’s) facing Lamar Russ (10-0, 6 KO’s). Taylor, 34, is ranked #6 WBC, #8 WBO, #14 IBF, compared to the two fights that will be pitting only prospects. It’s kind of hard to believe how far Taylor has fallen. He can’t even get his full fight shown on the bottom of a Showtime card with prospects put above him.

Jermain Taylor: I want a top 10 contender next

Image: Jermain Taylor: I want a top 10 contender nextBy Allan Fox: In watching former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (30-4-1, 18 KO’s) struggle to beat B level fighter Caleb Truax (18-1-1, 10 KO’s) by an unimpressive 10 round unanimous decision last Friday night, the last thing I would recommend for the 33-year-old Taylor would be for him to step it up after this fight against better middleweights than Truax.
