By Scott Gilfoid: In a clear sign that IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) hasn’t done his homework in evaluating how talented #2 IBF Errol Spence Jr. (20-0, 17 KOs) is, Brook is now comparing him to former IBF super middleweight world champion Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy, who was beaten 10 years ago by Britain’s Joe Calzaghe by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision.
Spence called Brook out last Saturday night following his 5th round knockout win over former world champion Chris Algieri (21-3, 8 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. At the time, Spence was going by the mistaken belief that the victory over Algieri made him the IBF mandatory challenger to Brook.
By Allan Fox: #10 IBF, #11 WBO, David Lemieux (31-2, 29 KO’s) will be back in the ring next month against 27-year-old former world title challenger Fernando Guerrero (26-2, 19 KO’s) in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds on the undercard of the title fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson vs. Andrzej Fonfara at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.
By Eric Thomas: 36-year-old former IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy (25-4, 17 KO’s) will be returning to the ring on August 24th against a still to be determined opponent in his home city of St. Petersburg, Florida, according to
By Scott Gilfoid: Gavin Rees (37-1, 18 KO’s) sees his fight with WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) next month on February 16th as being the exact same fight scenario as the March 2006 fight between Joe Calzaghe and Jeff Lacy. Rees sees himself as being the Calzaghe and the unbeaten Broner as Lacy. It’s pretty funny comparison, but if Rees actually believes it than I really feel sorry for him.
By Tom Stokes: When Kelly “Ghost” Pavlik (35-1, 31 KO’s) turned pro in 2000, he went through opponent after opponent knocking them out, and by the time he met Jermain Taylor (28-3, 17 KO’s) he had amassed a formidable record of 31 victories only going the distance 3 times.
By Steven Wain: Everyone saw last week when Lacy was destroyed by ring legend Roy Jones JR proving once again that Lacy can’t mix it with the big boys. The fight was so one sided, for 10 rounds Lacy just had his ass handed to him and got taught a boxing lesson from a boxing master, the fight was painful to watch and I was relieved when his corner pulled him out.
