James DeGale – The man has talent

Image: James DeGale - The man has talentBy Ronnie Jordan: The magnificent 7 has just been announced in the UK with a large chunk of our homegrown talent on the same bill. James Degale in only his 8th pro bout is already due to defend his Commonwealth belt. Recently in an interview with Steve Bunce, DeGale claimed he’s already the best in the country, stating “I can’t see anyone domestically taking me 12 rounds.” In a recent article at boxingnews24 the writer seemed to be offended by this statement and strongly disagreed, and the readers also leaving negative opinions about DeGale.

DeGale says he’s “The best domestically” – News

Image: DeGale says he's "The best domestically" - NewsBy William Mackay: Former 2008 Olympic middleweight Gold Medalist James DeGale (7-0, 5 KO’s) already sees himself as the best fighter in the super middleweight division in the UK, saying in an article at Frankwarren.tv, “To be honest, I am the best domestically already…I know I can beat anyone out there at the minute domestically, and I will prove that by taking out whoever is put in front of me.” I’m sure that Britain’s George Groves (9-0, 7 KO’s) would likely have something to say about that, as he’s looked arguably better than DeGale during his short career.

DeGale looked slow and sloppy in beating Horton

Image: DeGale looked slow and sloppy in beating HortonBy William Mackay: Former 2008 Olympic Gold Medal winner James DeGale (7-0, 5 KO’s) looked slow of hand and slow of foot and more than a little sloppy in stopping an overmatched, slow and punching Sam Horton (15-2, 2 KO’s) in the 5th round last Saturday night on the undercard of the Michael Katsidis vs. Kevin Mitchell lightweight clash at Upton Park, West Ham in London. DeGale, formerly a middleweight in the Olympics and now fighting as a super middleweight, dropped Horton two times in the fight. It seemed that DeGale, at times, was merely toying with Horton.

Image: The View From U.K Corner: Khan, DeGale, Mitchell, Katsidis, More!By Sean Pollock: No matter what corner of the world you were watching from on Saturday night- it was a great night of boxing! We seen some classy exhibitions of ‘the sweet science’ and some ruthless displays of raw power, each as enjoyable as the other.

Destination- Upton Park, London, UK:

The night started well for Olympian James DeGale (7 –0-0) with a brutal KO in the 5th of Sam Horton (15-1-0) for the vacant ‘WBA International super middleweight title’ and he looks to be maturing nicely into the very competitive division. The stadium was then buzzing with anticipation for the main event after Derek Chisora (13-0-0) made light work with a 2nd round TKO of the Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams (41-9-0).

DeGale doesn’t think Haye will beat the Klitschko brothers

Image: DeGale doesn’t think Haye will beat the Klitschko brothersBy Scott Gilfoid: 2008 Olympic middleweight Gold Medalist for Britain James DeGale says he doesn’t believe that World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye (23-1, 21 KO’s) will be able to beat either of the Klitschko brothers. In an article at the Sun, DeGale, 24, said “I can’t see him [Haye] beating the Klitschkos. They’ll give him trouble and it will come down to his punch resistance.” Thanks for the bit of brilliance, DeGale. Now tell me something I don’t know. The Klitschko brothers beating Haye kind of goes without saying, really.

UK boxing on the rise

Image: UK boxing on the riseBy Ronny Jordan: In recent years the UK has produced some great fighters. Throughout the 80s there was Barry Mcguigan, Lloyd Honeyghan. The 90s Naseem Hamed, Lennox Lewis, and more recently Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe plus more. All great champions of there time and will be remembered and loved by the UK public.

Apart from these few however most have fallen short at the very top level. Not always, but generally the UK has dominated the European scene but never the world. This might be changing however.

DeGale and Cleverly: Are they future champions or just gate keepers?

Image: DeGale and Cleverly: Are they future champions or just gate keepers?By Scott Gilfoid: After watching James DeGale (6-0, 4 KO’s) and Nathan Cleverly (19-0, 9 KO’s) last weekend dispatch a couple of easy foes, I really don’t see either of them being good enough in the future to win a major title in any of the divisions. There’s something missing with both of them that I think will ultimately hamper their progress in capturing a title. Oh, I have no doubts that DeGale and Cleverly are good enough to win one of the obscure NABO whatchamacalit titles, but as far as a major title goes, I just don’t see it happening. DeGale beat some guy named Matthew Barr last Saturday night in a 2nd round TKO win.

Report cards for DeGale, Cox and Liam Walsh

Image: Report cards for DeGale, Cox and Liam WalshBy Sean McDaniel: Overall, there were a couple of good performances last weekend at the Wembley Arena with James DeGale, Frankie Gavin, Jamie Cox, Derek Chisora, Liam Walsh, Nathan Cleverly and Kevin Mitchell all emerging victorious. However, winning is one thing but looking good in doing so is quite another. I thought Mitchell, Walsh, Cleverly and Chisora looked good in beating their dreadfully over-matched opponents.
