Anyone for Kell Brook v Dan Ion? Me neither

brook5By Gav Duthie: Surely lightning isn’t going to strike for about the 50th time for Special’ Kell Brook 32-0 (22) as it looks increasingly likely that once again he is going to miss out on a big fight for the IBF Welterweight title. I reckon Brook could probably enter the Guinness book of records for longest time as mandatory challenger, now around the 2 year mark.

Its difficult to pin down whats actually happening with this fight. A few days ago we were told by Porter Snr that Shawn Brook hadn’t signed his part of the contract. Now it seems to be the other way round that Porter is stalling.

Aydin defeats Jo-Jo Dan by 12-round split decision

By Jim Dower: Undefeated welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KO’s) defeated Ionut Dan Ion (26-1, 14 KO’s) by a controversial 12 round split decision on Saturday night to capture the obscure WBC Silver welterweight title at the Abdi Ipekci Spor Salonu, in Istanbul, Turkey. It was hard to score a lot of the rounds, because Jo-Jo Dan, who fought remarkably a lot like super middleweight Lucian Bute, lacked punching power. He just had nothing in his shots whatsoever.

Aydin vs. Ionut Dan Ion on Saturday

Aydin, 26, is currently ranked #2 WBC and #3 IBF and really needs a win over Jo-Jo Dan to get a shot against one of the current welterweight champions. Aydin is short for a welterweight, only 5’7”, but has good power and is able to generate a lot of power in close.

Ionut Dan Ion Defeats Peter Semo

dan56425.jpgBy Dan Ambrose: Undefeated junior welterweight prospect Ionut Dan Ion “Jo Jo Dan” (22-0, 12 KOs) won a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision over Peter Semo (18-3, 13 KOs) on Friday night at the Piatra Neamt, in Romania. Dan, 26, ranked #12 in both the WBA and WBC junior welterweight division, boxed expertly for 12-rounds, boxing in circles around the slower, less skilled Semo, 26, from Uganda. Using almost entirely his jab mixed in with a rare straight left hand, the southpaw Dan moved around gracefully in the early rounds of the fight, hitting Semo at will with jabs and keeping out of the way of his slower, less than skillful attempts to land a shot of his own.

Semo, without any real speed, was badly at disadvantage in the fight, and had big problems landing anything at all. In the opening three rounds of the fight, Semo was unable to land anything on the few occasions that he actually even tried to throw a punch. His lack of efforts seemed to hurt him even worse, because with all the moving that Dan was doing, he was often vulnerable to counter shots due to his predictable jab.
