Frampton rejects Rigondeaux fight

By Patrick McHugh: Carl Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) says he has no interest in facing unbeaten WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux in his next fight. Frampton says there’s no money in a fight against the unbeaten Rigondeaux despite seeing him as a fantastic fighter. Frampton says he’s more interested in fighting unification fights against WBC champion Gary Russell Jr. or IBF champion Lee Selby.

Frampton beat WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (31-1-1, 18 KOs) by a 12 round majority decision last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Frampton got the better of Santa Cruz in the first half of the fight, and then held onto the lead in the second half when he rallied.

By Jeff Aranow: After making an easy voluntary title defense last Saturday night against an over-matched fringe contender James “Jazza” Dickens, Rigondeaux got the bad news on Tuesday with the World Boxing Association ordering him to start negotiations with unbeaten WBA interim 122lb champion Moises “Chucky” Flores (25-0, 17 KOs).

Rigondeaux and the 29-year-old Flores have 30 days to negotiate the fight until August 17. A purse bid will be called if the two fighters haven’t successfully negotiated the fight by that date.

by Scott Gilfoid: The highly talented WBA Super World super bantamweight champion Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs) retained his title tonight with a 2nd round stoppage win over #11 WBA James “Jazza” Dickens (22-2, 7 KOs) at the Ice Arena Wales, in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. The fight was halted after the 2nd round due to the 25-year-old Dickens suffering a broken jaw in round two. The official time of the stoppage by referee Howard John Foster was at 3:00 of round two.

Dickens: Rigondeaux can be beat!

By Scott Gilfoid: The terribly over-matched James “Jazza” Dickens (22-1, 7 KOs) doesn’t seem to realize just how over his head he is for his fight tonight against WBA Super World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs). The 25-year-old Dickens, who is little more than a fringe contender at best, will be facing Rigondeaux in what will likely be a friend and supportive crowd at the Ice Arena Wales, in Cardiff, Wales. Dickens has been flapping his gums, saying he’s going to ‘shock the world’ against Rigondeaux. Is that going to happen? Nah, Dickens is pretty much the sacrificial lamb in this one. He’s going to get worked over by Rigondeaux big time.

The fans will surely be on Dickens’ side when he gets in the ring with the talented 35-year-old Rigondeaux. Unfortunately, the fans won’t be able to run interference for him to keep Rigondeaux off of him, because he’s clearly going to be taking a royal beating from the talented Cuban.

Are you ready for Rigondeaux vs. Dickens?

By Gerardo Granados: Next Saturday July 16 at the Ice Arena Wales the super bantamweight Champion of the World WBA Guillermo Chacal Rigondeaux with a record of W16-L0-D0 will try to defend his crown against contender James Dickens with a record of W22-L1-D0.

At 35 years of age, southpaw Rigondeaux has no time left to waste. Kronos won’t forgive Rigondeaux, just as Kronos boxing is merciless and never forgives the lions who grow old inside the ring. Being Chacal 5´4” tall and 68” reach, it makes it hard for him to be demanded to move up to the featherweight division, where he would give not only considerable height and reach advantage and also considerable size advantage.

Rigondeaux faces Dickens this Saturday

By Scott Gilfoid: #11 WBA Jazza Dickens (22-1, 7 KOs) will be facing unbeaten WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs) this Saturday night at the Ice Arena in Cardiff, Wales. Rigondeaux, 35, is quite pleased that he was able to get Dickens to agree to a fight against him because he’s been unable to get many of the other top super bantamweights to agree to fight him.

Dickens, 25, isn’t in the same position to avoid the Rigondeaux fight as the other top fighters, because he’s a fringe contender and not considered a major player in the division. When you’re ranked near the bottom of the World Boxing Associations top 15 rankings like Dickens currently is, you can’t afford to be choosy about which champion you face.

By Jeff Aranow: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs) will be taking a soft first defense of his WBA title against #13 WBA James “Jazza” Dickens (22-1, 7 KOs) on July 16 at the Ice Arena Wales in Cardiff, Wales. Rigondeaux, 35, was given the WBA 122lb title recently when the previous champion Carl Frampton opted not to face Rigondeaux when the fight was ordered.

Frampton instead moved up to featherweight, where he’ll be facing WBA Super World featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz on July 30 next month at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Rigondeaux was supposed to have fought Jazza earlier this year but the Cuban fighter had visa issues that got in the way of the fight taking place.

Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Jamie McDonnell possible

Image: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Jamie McDonnell possibleBy Scott Gilfoid: A year after having his WBA ‘super’ bantamweight title taken from him by the World Boxing Association for failing to defend it on a frequent enough basis, the talented super bantamweight Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs) has been given his title back.

The WBA decided to give it back to Rigondeaux after they stripped it from Carl Frampton, who won the belt last February in beating Scott Quigg in their unification fight. Frampton was subsequently ordered by the WBA to fight Rigondeaux, but he failed to step up to the plate for that fight, so the WBA had to take the strap from him.

Quigg: I’d be confident going against Rigondeaux

quigg89By Patrick McHugh: Former WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (31-1-2, 23 KOs) is currently recovering from a broken jaw he suffered in his recent 12 round split decision loss to IBF 122lb champion Carl Frampton (22-1, 14 KOs) last February.

Quigg, 27, would like a rematch against Frampton after his jaw recovers. Quigg notes that Frampton choose to steer around a fight against unbeaten Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs).

Frampton’s decision to avoid the Rigondeaux fight has cost him his World Boxing Association title, because the WBA was going to order that he face the Cuban fighter. Quigg says he would have been confident in facing Rigondeaux if he were still the WBA champion.
