Martin Murray needs win over Spada to get Golovkin fight

murray64 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver middleweight champion Martin Murray (28-1-1, 12 KOs) is hoping to get a victory over #7 WBC Domenico Spada (39-5, 19 KOs) this Saturday night to potentially get a fight against World Boxing Association Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

Murray still isn’t sure if he’s going to be facing Golovkin or going in another direction, which is kind of interesting because everyone is saying he’ll be facing Golovkin next February if he can get past the 34-year-old Spada in their fight on Saturday at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

GGG and the hype job

golovkin(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Babatis Banda: WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0-28) seems to have taken the sport of boxing by storm. He has the highest knockout ratio in his weight class and looks unstoppable. Some enthusiasts are already making comparisons with the likes of Mike Tyson and so far, you can’t blame them.

Over the weekend, we saw Golovkin destroy challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs) in a somewhat impressive show, but not enough to show exactly what Golovkin is made of in their fight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Rubio could not be the real test for Golovkin, he was another victim lined up to help build the GGG persona. I have also heard some people suggest that Golovkin is the next big thing after Floyd Mayweather Jr in this sport of boxing, and I disagree.

Bradley: Canelo beats Golovkin, he’s very slow

canelo7344By Dan Ambrose: Welterweight contender Tim Bradley thinks that former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) will beat WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) if they ever fight.

Bradley says he saw Golovkin’s fight last Saturday night against Marco Antonio Rubio, and he felt that Golovkin was totally slow in terms of his hand speed. Bradley thought that Golovkin had better hand speed than what he showed, and he wasn’t impressed at all with what he saw of him.

De La Hoya: I have no doubt Canelo and Golovkin will fight

golovkin667(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya says that former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) will wind up facing each other, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Just when they’ll face each other is anyone’s guess.

It might not be a great fight if Canelo gets whipped by WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto first in their proposed fight next year in May. Once the red-haired Canelo has been beaten for the second time, it’ll no longer be nearly as interesting for Golovkin to fight him.

Groves thinks Golovkin should move down in weight to fight Mayweather and Pacquiao

golovkin777(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: Former two-time super middleweight title challenger George Groves thinks WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) should trim down some weight, and move down to 154 to attempt to get big money fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao.

Groves, who has previously sparred with Golovkin recently, thinks Golovkin has weight he can take off still to fight at 154 rather than 160. At junior middleweight, Groves believes it’s possible for Golovkin to get fights against Pacquiao, Mayweather, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Pacquiao.

Golovkin to fight next February in Europe, says Loeffler

Golovkin1F(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) will be back in action in the next four months in February in a fight that will be staged in Europe, says Golovkins’ promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions. Golovkin will be fighting only three times in 2014 instead of four times. But the plan is for Golokvin to fight four times in 2015.

Golovkin could possibly fight in the United States if Julio Cesar Chavez Jr agrees to fight him. However, the odds of that happening are slim and none, because Chavez Jr hasn’t been talking about wanting to fight Golovkin lately.

Lampley: Andre Ward wants Golovkin fight!

Golovkin1G(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: HBO commentator Jim Lampley says he was contacted by the lawyer for WBA Super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14 KOs) who told him that Ward is willing to fight WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) for a fight.

Presumably, Golovkin would have to move up to super middleweight to face Ward at either a catch-weight or at the full weight in order for the fight to happen.

Golovkin is like middleweight Mike Tyson, says Jones Jr

golovkin94By Dan Ambrose: WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) wasted little time of dispatching challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs) last Saturday night in taking him out in two blistering rounds in front of 9,323 boxing fans at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Golovkin hit Rubio with a left hook to the head that dropped him for the 10 count. The stoppage was so sudden and unexpected that it led to many of the StubHub Center fans booing the end, because they wanted to see the fight continued.

Golovkin beats Rubio, calls out Cotto

golovkin433By Dan Ambrose: WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) put World Boxing Council 160 pound champion Miguel Cotto on notice that he wants to fight him next following Golovin’s impressive 2nd round knockout victory over the usually strong-chinned Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs) on Saturday night in front of 9,323 fans at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Rubio went down in the 2nd from a left to the head by Golovkin. The fight was then stopped at 1:19 of the round.
