Is Froch hurting his own legacy by aiming for Chavez Jr instead of Golovkin?

froch5629By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Carl Froch is talking about only wanting to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr rather than getting in the ring with other fighters that would seemingly help his legacy in a much bigger way such as Gennady Golovkin, Andre Ward, the Dirrell brothers, Sergey Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson.

I’m not sure that Froch realizes this or not, but he’s probably stunting his own legacy by fighting guys like George Groves, Chavez Jr and Yusuf Mack rather than looking to fight the best guys.

Golovkin willing to be C-side to get Cotto fight, says Sanchez

golovkin433By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says they’re willing to do anything they can to get a fight against WBC middleweight belt holder Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs), including being the C-side in order to get the fight signed.

Golovkin wants the WBC strap so bad that it looks like he’s willing to take the short money in order to lure the aging 34-year-old Cotto in the ring. However, Golovkin doesn’t have a bad knee and he’s not bearing 40 the way Cotto’s last opponent Sergio Martinez was.

Froch: Golovkin’s not PPV; I don’t want Ward

froch11By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch says he’s not interested in either Gennady Golovkin or Andre Ward for his next fight. Froch says if he doesn’t get a fight against former WBC middleweight belt holder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr next then he’ll retire from boxing.

Froch doesn’t have a plan B backup in facing Golovkin or Ward, which is kind of surprising given Froch’s recent comments about wanting to continue his career beyond his next fight.

Sanchez expects Golovkin to get big names to fight him in 2015

golovkin5By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) has been in the pro game for the past 9 years and he’s yet to face one high caliber fighter. Golovkin’s not been able to get the bigger names like Miguel Cotto, Peter Quillin, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao to fight him.

He’s not even gotten guys like Daniel Jacobs, Jermain Taylor, Carl Froch or Arthur Abraham to fight him. Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez believes that’s slowly going to change starting in 2015, with some of the top guys finally agreeing to step inside the ring with Golovkin.

Business decisions and fickle fans of boxing

murray5By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: How many of made a career choice because of what somebody else said, but deep in your heart it’s not really what you wanted? How many of us have made financial decisions that concerned your family or just in general that did not sit well with those around you? Did you care? You made the decision based on what was best for you or your family and hopefully you stuck by it.

It probably made people upset, but they’ll be alright. How many people have worked a job, moved up the ladder, is now sitting in a high position, only to have the boss come and say, “We have to cut your salary by 15 percent”. Wouldn’t that set you off? In your mind, you’ve EARNED the right, paid your dues; to make the kind of money you make. How would you feel about doing junior executive work, but getting mail room pay? And that’s how some, not all fans, think when they say “just make the fight happen”.

Froch-Golovkin is a possibility for the fall

froch83By Daven: With Carl Froch’s next fight, at last seemingly on the brink of completion, and Gennady Golovkin set to fight four times this year, it made sense to plot a potential bout between these two warriors. Assuming Froch emerges victorious against an over-matched Chavez Jr, and his desire to fight on remains, an encounter with GGG could be enticing. Abel Sanchez enthusiastically stated to the media that his fighter will be staying active yet again. This pleases intelligent boxing fans who’re delighted to see such a crowd-pleaser box regularly.

After viewing Froch’s recent interview with Paul Dempsey, I got the impression he is well aware of Chavez Jr’s flaws. And being the proud man he is, this will affect him. He’ll not want to retire after beating an ill-disciplined fighter such as Julio. Moreover, Carl will be once more persuaded into giving Britain as well as HBO the fight we want. Obviously that is one involving the Kazakh sensation GGG.

Golovkin to fight four times in 2015

golovkin343By Dan Ambrose: WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) says he plans on fighting four times in 2015 if possible, starting with his title defense next month against Britain’s Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) on February 21st at the Salle des Étoiles, in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Golovkin fought three times in 2013, which compared to the more popular fighters like Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, is pretty good. Cotto fought only once, and Canelo just twice.

If Martin Murray goes into his shell, Golovkin could stop him before 3-4 rounds, says Sanchez

murray64 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez notes that Golovkin’s next opponent Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) likes to fight behind his clam-shell guard when he fights. Sanchez thinks that’s going to lead the 32-year-old Murray to getting chopped down lightning quickly on February 21st if he tries that tactic against Golovkin at the Salle des Étoiles, in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

If Murray comes out swinging looking to go out on his shield and make a fight of it, Sanchez sees the British fighter last 3 or 4 rounds at best. But if Murray comes out hiding behind his clam-shell guard like he’s done in fights against Sergio Martinez and Felix Sturm, for example, then Sanchez sees this fight ending quickly with Murray being reduced to a pile of rubble on the canvas in Monte Carlo.

Cotto, Canelo and Quillin have to be put on the spot for not fighting Golovkin

golovkin55555By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez thinks that the top “A-lister” middleweights in the division need to be shamed and put on the spot for them not facing Golovkin.

Sanchez is specifically talking about Peter Quillin, Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Sanchez believes that it’s high time that they agree to fight Golovkin, because their excuses for not fighting him don’t fly.
