Golovkin and Mayweather: Why their opponents think so different of them

golovkin101By Yannis Mihanos: WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) is from Kazakhstan and has knocked down almost all of his opponents (30) so far, but it seems he has difficulty to find and fight other top contenders like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto.

The prime reason and most obvious is that Golovkin cannot be stopped by anybody at this current moment. Coaches and promoters try to avoid Golovkin so they can preserve and protect the unbeaten status or winning streak of their fighter.

Lara wants Mayweather, Cotto and Golovkin

1-EW5G1040-2By Dan Ambrose: After his one-sided 12 round unanimous decision over a totally outclassed #12 WBA contender Delvin Rodriguez (28-8-4, 16 KOs) last Friday night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, WBA World junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (21-2-2, 12 KOs) says he wants to fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Gennady Golovkin or Miguel Cotto.

Whether the 32-year-old Lara will get any fights of those kind would seem to very unlikely. Lara’s loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last year took a lot of steam out of the Cuban fighter’s career, even though he barely lost the fight. I don’t like Lara’s chances of beating Mayweather, Golovkin or Cotto. Lara throws mainly left-hand pot shots, and he doesn’t have amazing hand speed or power. Mayweather would easily out-box him, and Golovkin and Cotto would very likely knock Lara out in one-sided fights.

Golovkin’s promoter looking at other options after Froch’s promoter says he hasn’t decided to take fight or not

golovkin883By Scott Gilfoid: Tom Loeffler, the promoter for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), is moving his star fighter in another direction rather than sit and waiting forever for former IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) to make up his mind whether he wants to take the fight with Golovkin or not.

Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn says that Froch still hasn’t made up his mind yet whether he’ll take the fight or not. Hearn thinks Froch will hang up his gloves rather get in the ring with Golovkin.

Four feasible names for Golovkin’s next fight

golovkin94By @BoxingMuse: Gennady Golovkin, Kazakhstan’s God of War, demolished the underrated, albeit overmatched Willie Monroe, Jr. at the The Forum in California last month. As soon as the fight was over fight fans began to wonder and suggest who the KO artist should and could face next. Although match ups against boxing’s biggest stars such as Carl Froch, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Andre Ward and Miguel Cotto are desirable and possible, at this moment in time, they are not feasible for a number various reasons, which I won’t get into.

However there are a handful of names in and around the middleweight division that would make for an interesting bout.

Hearn: I don’t think Froch will fight again

hearn7890By Scott Gilfoid: In addressing concerns that WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler has about him ignoring him, Eddie Hearn, the promoter for former IBF/WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs), says he’s not purposefully ignoring Loeffler about a potential fight between Froch and Golovkin.

It’s just that Hearn’s not sure if Froch will ever fight again. Indeed, Hearn says that he believes Froch will never fight again. That’s what Hearn feels right now based on the conversations he’s been having with the 37-year-old fighter.

No response from Froch & Hearn in regards to Golovkin fight

froch#1By Scott Gilfoid: After talking about how he was interested in facing WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) and his promoter Eddie Hearn haven’t looked to get the fight against Golovkin.

According to Steve Kim, Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler has had no response from Froch and Hearn with a fight against Golovkin. That doesn’t mean the fight isn’t going to happen, but it doesn’t look good right now with Hearn and Froch not taking the initiative to set up the fight.

With all the talking that has been done towards this fight, it’s going to look bad on Froch’s part if he doesn’t step up and face the hard hitting Golovkin.

Dirrell: I seen a lot of flaws in Golovkin’s game

dirrell55665By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight Andre Dirrell says he saw flaws in WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s game in his recent fight against Willie Monroe Jr. Dirrell thinks that Golovkin has been cherry picking throughout his career and hasn’t faced a quality fighter yet after all these years.

Dirrell, who twice fought Golovkin during the time the two were in the amateur ranks, thinks that Golovkin has been taking it easy with the soft opposition he’s faced. Dirrell wants to see Golovkin in there with someone really good.

Golovkin making a mistake of letting Cotto-Canelo fight take place if winner doesn’t agree to face him

1-golovkin3 (14)By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0 30 KOs) is supposed to be fighting for the WBC middleweight title next against the current catch-weight belt holder Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs), but instead of Golovkin getting his mandatory shot, Cotto is looking to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez next, who doesn’t even fight officially in the middleweight division.

Canelo definitely fights more now at middleweight than he does at junior middleweight, but that’s unofficial and he still calls himself a junior middleweight, even though he stopped fighting in that weight division two years ago.

Erislandy Lara targeting Golovkin after Delvin Rodriguez fight

lara56666 By Allan Fox: WBA World junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (20-2-2, 12 KOs) is interested in facing undefeated IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in the near future. Lara has a fight this Friday on Spike in Premier Boxing Champions against #12 WBA Delvin Rodriguez (28-7-4, 16 KOs) in what appear to be a showcase fight for the 32-year-old Cuban born Lara at the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois.

For Lara to have a chance of getting a fight against Golovkin, he’ll need to defeat Rodriguez in an impressive fashion, because this isn’t supposed to be a competitive fight. It’s a voluntary defense for Lara.

De La Hoya will do a great job against Golovkin, says Brandon Rios

delahoya2By Dan Ambrose: It seems like almost no one thinks former six division world champion Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs) would stand a chance against IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) is the 42-year-old De La Hoya makes good on his comeback talk of returning to the ring to fight the power punching Golovkin.

One fighter believes that De La Hoya will give Golovkin a lot of problems in the ring, and that’s former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios. He likes De La Hoya’s experience, boxing skills, and his courage in a fight against Golovkin.
