Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade agreed to for April 23

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s next fight against #3 IBF, #7 WBC, #8 WBA, #15 WBO Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) has been agreed to and also approved by HBO for April 23, according to Dan Rafael. The Golovkin-Wade fight will likely be staged at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

It’s obviously not a fight that Golovkin and his promoters at K2 wanted. They were hoping to get a bigger fight against the likes of Chris Eubank Jr. or Billy Joe Saunders. However, the International Boxing Federation took their ability to choose away when they ordered Golovkin to face Wade, the replacement mandatory challenger.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade is better fight than Canelo-Khan

Image: Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade is better fight than Canelo-KhanBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is expected to face unbeaten #3 IBF Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The fight hasn’t been announced as of yet by Golovkin’s promoters at K2, but Wade, 25, is said to be the likely opponent for Golovkin’s interim fight on 4/23 on HBO.

While Golovkin will be facing the tough as nails Wade, WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) has pooled from the welterweight division to find Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs), who will be forced to move up in weight two divisions to face Canelo at a catch-weight of 155lbs.

Who can be the man to defeat Golovkin? Rating the contenders – Erislandy Lara

lara000(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Al Classico: Following on from my previous article on rating the potential opponents at middleweight who are capable of testing and perhaps even defeating Golovkin, we now take a look at a man who by many is seen as an undefeated fighter and also someone who has vocally expressed their interest in fighting GGG at the full 160 middleweight limit.

That man is Erislandy Lara (22-2-2, 13 KOs) who has often received the short end of the stick for a fighter of his calibre and someone who struggles to get the big names into the ring with him. He has already called out Golovkin and assuming that GGG accepts the challenge, what chance would Lara have at knocking of the middleweight king pin?

Saunders targeting Golovkin or Eubank Jr. for next fight

Image: Saunders targeting Golovkin or Eubank Jr. for next fightBy Scott Gilfoid: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) says he’s interested in facing either IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin or #1 WBA Chris Eubank Jr. for his next fight. It’s unclear which of the two of them the 26-year-old Saunders will be facing.

Saunders already beat Eubank Jr. in 2014, and Eubank Jr. has done very little since then in terms of beating quality opposition to redeem himself unless you consider fringe contender Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan, 40-year-old Tony Jeter and Dmitry Chudinov as quality opposition. Saunders would want his next fight to take place in the UK.

Mosley: Canelo vs. Golovkin is an even fight

1-CANELO ALVAREZ 05By Dan Ambrose: 44-year-old Shane Mosley believes that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) has the skills, speed and punching power to fight unbeaten Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) on even terms if/when the two of them face each other one of these days.

Mosley was soundly beaten by a 21-year-old Canelo four years ago in 2012 in losing by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 118-110. Mosley looked like a lightweight in the ring against a middleweight in that fight, and it’s not surprising that he lost by a one-sided fight.

Jacobs has the ammo to beat Golovkin, says trainer

Image: Jacobs has the ammo to beat Golovkin, says trainerBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs’ trainer Andre Rozier reportedly believes that Jacobs has the goods to defeat IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) when or if a fight between the two of them ever takes place in the future.

Golovkin is said to be very, very interested in facing Jacobs, but thus far, he’s never had the opportunity to get the 28-year-old American into the ring. Jacobs is coming off of a career best 1st round knockout win over former WBO 160lb champion Peter Quillin in his last fight in December. Jacobs basically jumped on Quillin and took him out with a flurry of heavy shots after hurting him with a right hand.

Loeffler says Golovkin won’t negotiate with Canelo on weight for fight

Image: Loeffler says Golovkin won’t negotiate with Canelo on weight for fightBy Dan Ambrose: According to Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will not be negotiating with WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) about which weight the two of them will fight at later this year when/if their fight takes place.

Golovkin will fight at 160 without any catch-weights, period. If Canelo doesn’t want to fight Golovkin under those circumstances, then he can choose to vacate the title if he wants. But as for Golovkin fighting Canelo at a catch-weight handicap, Loeffler says that’s not going to happen.

Who can be the man to defeat Golovkin? Rating the contenders- Daniel Jacobs

Image: Who can be the man to defeat Golovkin? Rating the contenders- Daniel JacobsBy Al Classico: Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29KOs), aka ‘The Miracle Man’  has really cemented himself as one of the legitimate middleweight challengers to Golovkin with his emphatic 1 round stoppage of fellow top middleweight Peter Quillin in December 2015. It’s hard to gauge whether that KO was the result of Jacob’s skill level or due to a lapse of concentration and a slow start from Peter Quillin but it was likely a culmination of both.

Perhaps we need to see a rematch between the two to get a more accurate picture on how good both Jacobs and Quillin are in respect to each other. If Jacobs opts not to give Quillin an immediate rematch, but instead decides to take on the biggest challenge of his career and face Golovkin, then how is he likely to fare against the so called ‘Middleweight Monster’?

Golovkin could face Eubank Jr, DeGale or Saunders in UK

golovkinBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions have reportedly started negotiations to fight at West Ham’s Stadium in the UK against one of the following British fighters: James DeGale, Billy Joe Saunders or Chris Eubank Jr.

Just which one of the three will get the fight is unknown. Of the three, DeGale has appeared to be the most willing to fight Golovkin. Eubank Jr. and his father Chris Eubank Sr. have talked in recently about wanting to take the fight with Golovkin within a year and a half.

Who can be the man to defeat Golovkin? Ranking the contenders – Billy Joe Saunders

Image: Who can be the man to defeat Golovkin? Ranking the contenders - Billy Joe SaundersBy Al Classico: Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KO’s), The undefeated WBO champion threw a real spanner into the works when he defeated Andy Lee in late 2015 and derailed a potential, higher profile  Lee- Golovkin showdown this year. With the defeat of Lee and the acquisition of a ‘world champion’ belt, his name was immediately thrust into the conversation as a next up Golovkin opponent.

According to some reports, there was an offer tabled to Saunders for a fight against Golovkin in April, however the negotiations collapsed, with money allegedly being the biggest barrier to the deal being struck. Saunders has since opted to go in a different direction at this stage of his career but hopefully this fight can be made at some point in the not-too-distant future as it will be a really intriguing match-up. So if the fight does eventually get made, how would Saunders fare if he were to step up and step into the ring with Golovkin?
