Golovkin: People underestimate Khan’s speed

khan52By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin thinks that people are underestimating the speed that Amir “King” Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) has going for him in his fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7. Khan, 29, has been pretty much written off by a lot of boxing fans.

”People underestimate Khan’s speed #Canelo vs Khan #Canelo,” Golovkin said on his Twitter.

Golovkin is wise to see Khan as being overlooked in this fight because he’s got much better hand speed and mobility than Canelo can ever hope to have. Khan is so much faster than Canelo, and that’s going to help him a lot in this fight.

Cowboys owner wants Golovkin-Canelo fight at AT&T Stadium in Dallas

golovkin5554(Photo credit: World Boxing Council) By Allan Fox: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is interested in playing the host for the proposed fight this year between WBC middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez and Gennady GGG Golovkin at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. However, Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is interested in staging the Canelo-Golovkin fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada or Madison Square Garden in New York. Jerry Jones is going to have to make a strong play to get the Golovkin vs. Canelo fight staged at the AT&T Stadium this September.

Those would be good venues for Golovkin because he has a lot of fans in those two areas. Staging the fight in Texas would give Canelo a tremendous advantage because he has a large Mexican fan base in that state that would very likely fill the AT&T Stadium to cheer him on.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade a done deal for 4/23 on HBO

golovkin44By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is set to go to defend his IBF title against mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum, in Inglewood, California.

Granted, it’s not a great fight or even a good fight. It’s arguably a big step down from Golovkin’s last opponent David Lemieux and even a step down from his fight against Willie Monroe Jr. Golovkin has no choice in the matter though, because the International Boxing Federation came up with their oddball ratings of putting the 25-year-old Wade at No.3, and he got the position after #1 IBF Tureano Johnson suffered a shoulder injury training and couldn’t take the fight with Golovkin.

Golovkin: I need to get back in the ring for my fans

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) says he needs to get back in action for his fans. GGG is scheduled to fight #3 IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) in two months from now on April 23 at the Forum, in Inglewood, California.

The fight against the 25-year-old serves two purposes. First of all, it’s a mandatory defense of Golovkin’s IBF belt that he needs to take care of if he wants to continue to be the International Boxing Federation 160lb champion.

Who can be the man to defeat Golovkin? Rating the contenders – Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez

canelo5666By Al Classico: The proposed mega fight earmarked for September 2016 between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) and Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin (34-0, 31) took a step backwards last week when it was announced that Canelo would opt to defend his ‘middleweight title’ against a welterweight fighter in Amir ‘King’ Khan.

While this announcement of Khan as an opponent for Canelo was a shock to the boxing world in itself, the bigger implication of this announcement is that the Canelo-GGG now looks less likely to happen anytime soon. Most fans and people in the know were expecting Canelo to defend his title in May against a lesser risk middleweight such as a Gabe Rosado in order to test the waters at the full 160 weight limit and to prepare for GGG in September.

Will the WBC force Canelo to fight Golovkin at 160?

golovkin5554(Photo credit: World Boxing Council) By Dan Ambrose: What remains to be seen later this year is whether the World Boxing Council will force their WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to face his #1 WBC challenger Gennady Golovkin at the full weight of 160lbs for their fight?

Golovkin, his promoter Tom Loeffler, and trainer Abel Sanchez, have all said that they will not give in and agree to fight Canelo at a catch-weight of 155lbs. They insist that the fight must take place at 160lbs. Normally, a world champion can only insist that their challengers agree to a catch-weight when it’s a voluntary defense and not a mandatory.

Khan won’t get Canelo ready for GGG

1-CANELO ALVAREZ 05By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) will get a nice payday and a lot of attention for his fight against Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) on May 7, but the clash will not get Canelo ready in any way for his tougher and more important fight against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs).

Khan, 29, can crack a little when he lands cleanly, but he does not have the punching power, boxing skills or the chin that Golovkin has. Khan is the ideal opponent to get Canelo ready for a fight against Golovkin.

Hearn says Cotto, Thurman, Garcia and Golovkin are potential candidates for Kell Brook

hearn455By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn whiffed at trying to get Amir Khan for IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook for his summer mega-fight that Brook has been talking about wanting. Brook slipped away and went in the opposite direction towards a big money title shot against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on May 7 on HBO PPV.

Khan says that Brook turned down an offer for a fight against him. With Khan saying no to the Brook fight, Hearn is now talking about wanting to get one of the following names for Brook for his summer bouts: Danny Garcia, Gennady Golovkin, Keith Thurman or Miguel Cotto.

I’m surprised it’s just those names, because if Hearn widened his list to include a dozen names or so, he’d likely get at least one of them that would be willing to come over to the UK to fight Brook.

Kell Brook wants Gennady Golovkin at 155

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Scott Gilfoid: After hearing the news that Amir Khan will be fighting WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at middleweight, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook reportedly wants to face IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin at a catch-weight of 155lbs. Just how serious Brook is in wanting to fight the hard hitting Golovkin is unclear.

“Get me Golovkin at 155 pounds,” Brook said via the Metro from IFL TV.
