Should Canelo return to 154 if he ducks Golovkin fight?

canelo48

Jeff Aranow: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez says he wants his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions to continue working on negotiations for a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Canelo hasn’t officially ducked the hard hitting Kazakhstan fighter yet, but there’s a very good chance we could see that in the near future.

Canelo giving up his WBC middleweight title this month was the first hint that he might choose to avoid facing Triple G. The other hints were Canelo saying he’s still a 154lb fighter and that he won’t fight a middleweight at the full weight of 160lbs.

Mora: Golovkin will take a lot of years off Canelo

moraBy Gerardo Granados: Are we the Fight fans so naive or just plain stupid, to not to know, that professional boxing is a business too? In the last few days, I have read a couple of comments and articles defending Canelo Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar Dela Hoya decision to vacate the WBC middle title.

I don’t mean to disrespect pro wrestlers around the world, but pro wrestling is a quality show offered by many companies based on entertainment first and not on a real competition standard. Maybe in the US there is one major wrestling company, but there are many more regional wrestling promotional companies all over the United States and also around the World.

The main goal at pro wrestling is to offer to the viewers, an entertaining quality drama show, be it at the microphone or inside the ring. On times a wrestler might not be really skilled inside the ring, but if he does has an attractive personality and knows how to arouse the audience, then it is possible for him to gain many fans. Now, that doesn’t mean wrestlers aren’t real athletes, they also get hurt and on times tragedies occur.

Canelo-Golovkin: Wait or not to wait?

Image: Canelo-Golovkin: Wait or not to wait?

By Askhat Bapiev: It’s not smart to feed your vain hope and rely only on luck that one day you’re going to get what you wanted. I mean in all great boxing tales there is only one fight that absolutely can change the course of personal legend of any boxers and forever.

And we are talking about the fight which can make the world learn your name or forget you as a boxer at a such tender age.

Golovkin vs. Canelo needs to happen now

golovkin633

By Patrick McHugh: The general belief is that Golden Boy Promotions doesn’t want their cash cow Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) to face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 Kos) right now because the 25-year-old Mexican Canelo is making too much money fighting sure thing opposition like Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto, James Kirkland and Alfredo Angulo.

The thought is that Golden Boy will only give Canelo the green light to fight Golovkin once their golden goose has laid enough golden eggs to the point where it won’t matter as much if he takes the fight and loses badly to Golovkin. The fortunes will have already been made by then, so it won’t hurt as much to see Canelo get beaten. However, the boxing wants to see Golovkin and Canelo face each other right now rather than wait for the fight to take place years from now when Golovkin is old and harmless for Canelo.

Eubank Jr. says he’ll outwork Golovkin

eubank56666

By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) believes he’ll beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) when they face each other in the near future. Unlike other fighters, Eubank Jr. is not intimidated by Triple G. He sees him as a slow fighter with good punching power, but with poor defensive skills that he can take advantage of when he gets him inside the ring.

Eubank Jr., 26, has already formulated how he’ll beat the 34-year-old Kazakhstan fighter by throwing more punches than him. For every one of Golovkin’s punches, Eubank Jr. says he’ll come back with three to five punches of his own.

Golovkin’s Plan B is Saunders if no Canelo

saunders5533

By Jeff Aranow: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders is the Plan-B opponent for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin if his negotiations with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fails to produce a fight for September 17. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler has hopes that a fight can be made with Canelo, but if not, then the 26-year-old Saunders is the guy that want next.

The World Boxing Association will let Golokvin take the unification fight against Saunders or the Canelo fight, but after that, Golovkin will need to fight WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs at the end of the year. The WBA is looking to reduce the amount of champions they have in each division.

So a fight between WBA Super World middleweight champion Golovkin and Saunders is how the WBA will accomplish that. The WBA will let both Golovkin and Jacobs one more fight before ordering them to face each other.

Robert Garcia in favor of Canelo’s decision to vacate WBC title

Image: Robert Garcia in favor of Canelo’s decision to vacate WBC title

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Robert Garcia is in favor of what Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez did recently in vacating his WBC middleweight title when he was pressured by the World Boxing Council with a deadline for negotiations with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Garcia says Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy made a good business decision to vacate the WBC belt. Garcia thinks it doesn’t matter if the Canelo-Golovkin fight takes place this year because it’ll still be a big fight a year from now when the two fighters do face each other.

Can Hearn get Eubank Jr. the Golovkin fight?

hearn55

By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBA, #3 WBC Chris Eubank Jr. recently signed a new two-fight contract with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Sport promotional company, and Eubank Jr. reportedly wants a title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin before the end of the year.

Hearn says he’s made an offer to Golovkin’s promoters at K2 to make the fight happen with Eubank Jr. Hearn believes it’s the second biggest money fight available to Golovkin behind only the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight.

The question is can Hearn deliver the fight for the 26-year-old Eubank Jr? The other question is what happens if Hearn doesn’t get the fight for Eubank Jr. against Golovkin? Will Eubank Jr. leave Matchroom Sport when his promotional contract expires or will he re-up with them despite their failure to land him the fight he wants against Golovkin? There’s got to be some pressure on Hearn to try and make the fight with Golovkin in order to keep Eubank Jr. and his father happy.

Hearn: Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. will happen in 2016

eubank100

By Dan Ambrose: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says a fight between his fighter #2 WBA, #3 WBC Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) will be taking place in 2016 in September, October, November or December.

Hearn is confident the fight will take place. He says he’s made an offer to Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler. Whether he accepts the offer is unclear, but Hearn says it’s the second most money Triple G can make behind Canelo. He believes it’s a fight that can definitely get made.

Eubank Jr. will be fighting (Tom Doran 17-0, 7 KOs) next month on the undercard of Dominic Breazeale vs. Anthony Joshua on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London, UK. This is another mismatch for the 26-year-old Eubank Jr. similar to his last fight against Nick Blackwell but far worse. Doran is not in Blackwell’s league and he’s going to be in trouble against Eubank Jr.

Canelo: OMGGG!

canelo765555

By Sishaq: Having since returned from the Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Amir ‘King’ Khan mega-fight and watched the replay on TV the following are a few observations. First, congratulations to Canelo on a sensational KO victory. He not only did what was expected of him but he showed improvements in his boxing skills. I was pleasantly surprised at his agility and the robust use of angles. I was equally impressed with his game plan of going exclusively to the body round after round after round just to setup an out-of-rhythm head shot.

With all of that said, however, there is one issue that needs to be highlighted. As the A-side of the fight Canelo absolutely had every right to dictate terms, such as making the title fight at the Canelo- catch weight of 155 lbs., instead of the full middleweight 160 lbs.
