Arum: Gilberto Ramirez will become PPV star if he beats Golovkin

ramirez95

By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes his fighter WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) is on the cusp of superstardom. Arum will be matching the 25-year-old Ramirez against middleweight star Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in early 2017, and he believes that the 6’2” Ramirez will win that fight thanks to his four inch height and five inch reach advantage over the Kazakhstan fighter.

Arum sees a victory for Ramirez over Golovkin as a fight that will transform the Mexican fighter into a pay-per-view attraction on HBO. Whether that happens or not is debatable. Ramirez may need to do a lot more than beating the 34-year-old Golovkin for him to become a PPV attraction.

Gennady Golovkin: Nothing left to prove at 160?

Image: Gennady Golovkin: Nothing left to prove at 160?

By J. Calderon: We get it, WBC/WBA/IBF/IBO middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KO’s) is presumably the best at 160. What we don’t get, is why GGG continues to beat at a dead horse in a stubborn attempt to unify the middleweight division. GGG now has three of the four major organizational belts, thanks in part to a giving and generous former WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KO’s) who seemed happy to oblige with Gennady’s ultimatum: “Give me my belt, hey, I need my belt.”

The last remaining belt is in possession of WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KO’s), who insists that he is willing to face GGG, but the money has to be right. An eerily similar response was heard from another highly desired Golovkin opponent, WBA (regular) middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KO’s).

Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. possible for August 27

Image: Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. possible for August 27

By Scott Gilfoid: The much talked about fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) have a working date of August 27 on Sky Box Office in the UK, according to Dan Rafael. With the Golovkin-Eubank Jr. fight possible for 8/27, it will push the unification match between IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook and WBO 147lb champion Jessie Vargas for September 24 on Sky Box Office.

There’s no way that both PPV broadcasts could take place in September, because that would be asking a lot of the British fans to have to pay for two PPV events rather than one.
Eubank Jr. and his promoters at Matchroom Sport have a deadline of this week to sign the contract for the Golovkin fight. If they don’t get the fight negotiated in the next two days, then Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler will be moving on to face another opponent that they can sign quickly.

Eubank Jr. to Golovkin: “You’re not ready for what’s coming”

eubank8555

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) briefly traded shots on social medial last Sunday, a day after Eubank Jr. smashed a badly over-matched Tom Doran (17-1, 7 KOs) last Saturday night at the O2 Arena, in London, UK. After the fight, Eubank Jr. called Golovkin out when interviewed inside the ring. Eubank Jr. continued to talk about Golovkin at the post-fight press conference.

Indeed, the entire press conference consisted of Eubank Jr. talking about how much better he is than GGG, and how he’s going to beat him when/if they face each other in August or September. What was weird is that Eubank Jr. said only a few words about the defeated Doran. I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a post-fight press conference where so little was said about the defeated opponent. It was as if Eubank Jr. hadn’t fought at all, because he sure as heck wasn’t talking about poor Doran, who he dropped four times in the one-sided massacre.

Jacobs says Golovkin fight can happen in 1 1/2 years from now

jacobs444

By Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) says he probably won’t be facing IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) for another 1 ½ years from now. In other words, Jacobs is using the same approach as Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to wait a year and a half before he decides to fight Golovkin. Jacobs and Canelo both seem to be calling the shots with Golovkin by saying when the fight can happen and when it can’t happen. The question is will Golovkin let himself be led by the nose by Canelo and Jacobs or will he tell them to get lost when they show interest in a year and a half from now? Golovkin might be better off telling Canelo and Jacobs that if they want to fight him, then they should work their way up the rankings to become his mandatory challenger.

Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy believe the Canelo-Golovkin fight will be a bigger one if they let it marinate until the fall of 2017. It’ unknown if it will be bigger, especially if Canelo isn’t going to be facing the big enough names to increase his own star power. You would have to assume that Canelo isn’t getting more popular with each fight.

Froch: Eubank Jr. doesn’t want Golovkin fight

froch763

By Scott Gilfoid: Former world champion Carl Froch has serious doubts whether #2 WBA, #2 WBC contender Chris Eubank Jr. really wants the fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Froch suspects that Eubank Jr. is just saying stuff about wanting the GGG fight, but won’t go ahead and take it.

Froch thinks it’s too soon for the 26-year-old Eubank Jr. to take on an experienced guy like Golovkin, because he sees it as a potentially dangerous fight for Junior. Froch says he would prefer that Eubank Jr. continue to defend his British middleweight title until he wins it outright, and then he should go after the European middleweight title.

Hearn has 48-72 hours to make Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. fight

hearn76454

By Scott Gilfoid: While Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is confident he’ll be able to make the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Gennady Golovkin fight this week, he’s only got 48 to 72 hours for the deadline otherwise Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler are moving on towards another opponent.

They wasted valuable time on trying to get a fight against Mexican star only to be put off until the fall of 2017. They’re not going to make that same mistake again by waiting on Eubank Jr., especially if he’s not really serious about wanting the fight.

Do the Eubank’s really want Golovkin?

eubank9655

By Gav Duthie: “Gennady Golovkin I’m coming for you”, the message from Chris Eubank Jnr post fight on Saturday was clear and concise. Promoter Eddie Hearn has said if they want the fight its there. GGG doesn’t seem to be a hard man to deal with and Eubank Jnr is ranked #1 with the WBA so this should be easy right? The problem is nothing is ever easy when Eubank Snr a.k.a English is involved. He is the middle man that we don’t need in this scenario, he is the guy who eccentric personality would delude him into making his son the A-list fighter and he never fought any of the number 1 fighters in the 90s in his division unless they were British.

Unpredictable career so far

Despite only being the British champion and relatively unknown outside the UK Eubank Jnr’s career has been hard to predict. He started it surprisingly on terrestrial TV on Channel 5 with Mick Hennessey and has linked up with Frank Warren and Box Nation and now twice with Eddie Hearn.

Eubank Jr: I can and I will beat Golovkin

eubank666

By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBA, #2 WBC Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) says he’ll be signing for a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) this Monday. They only have 48 hours to get the deal done, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.

It looks like Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler are going to move on if the fight isn’t signed by the deadline. They’ve got to get back into the ring quickly because they wasted a great deal of time waiting for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his promoters at Golden Boy for a fight. They found out recently that Canelo won’t fight him for a year and a half until the fall of 2017.

Eubank Jr. says he’ll definitely beat Golovkin and take everything he has. We’ll see. Many people believe that the fight won’t get made at all, period.
