Brook won’t fight Spence after Golovkin, says Porter

Image: Brook won’t fight Spence after Golovkin, says Porter

By Allan Fox: Kell Brook won’t want to move back down to fight his IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. after he faces IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on September 10, according to trainer Kenny Porter, the father of former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter. Kenny suspects that Brook will lose the fight to Golovkin, and then he won’t want to move back down to 147 to take another tough fight against Spence.

Shawn Porter feels that Brook will give Golovkin a lot of problems with his size and possibly his holding in their fight. Shawn thinks Brook could stay at 160 depending on how he does against Triple G. He might move back down to 147 if he loses the fight to Golovkin, however.
When asked by Fighthype.com whether Brook will fight Errol Spence Jr. after the Golovkin fight, Kenny Porter said, “No, Kell’s got a lot on his plate right now, and I think that might be more than he can handle. Obviously, from a business stand point, that’s the reason why he made the fight.”

Liam Williams says Brook more talented than Golovkin

brook845

By Scott Gilfoid: British junior middleweight champion Liam Williams (15-0-1, 10 KOs) has been sparring with unbeaten Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) to get him ready for his fight against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, and he’s come to the conclusion that he’s a better fighter the Kazakhstan fighter. Williams thinks Brook is a fighter technically than GGG.

What this all means is hard to decipher, because being a better technically than another fighter doesn’t mean that you’re going to beat them obviously. For the sake of argument, let’s pretend that Brook is a better fighter than Golovkin technically by a slight amount.

Liam Smith: Canelo went to 154 to save face over Triple G

Image: Liam Smith: Canelo went to 154 to save face over Triple G

By Dan Ambrose: Liam Smith says the reason why Saul “Canelo” Alvarez came down to 154 to fight him for his WBO junior middleweight title was for him to save face over ducking the fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Canelo was supposed to defend his World Boxing Council middleweight title against Golovkin due to him being Canelo’s mandatory challenger.

The WBC had already ordered the negotiations to take place between Canelo and Golovkin, and they even had a deadline in place for the negotiations to be finished. But instead of Canelo defending his WBC title against Triple G, he gave up his belt by vacating it, and he then moved down to 154 to challenge Liam Smith for his WBO junior middleweight title. Smith thinks that was a calculated move on Canelo’s part to keep him from catching heat from the boxing public.

Jacobs: Kell is over his head against GGG

Image: Jacobs: Kell is over his head against GGG

By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) thinks Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has put on too much weight and is over his head so to speak in his title fight against unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10 at the O2 arena in London, England.

Jacobs sees the 30-year-old Brook as a talented fighter, but he thinks he’s put too much weight on in bulking up to 176lbs, and believes that Golovkin simply hits too hard for him to deal with.

Macklin to help Brook with tips on Golovkin

macklin45

(Matthew Macklin seen here after getting knocked out by a body shot from Gennady Golovkin) By Scott Gilfoid: British fighter Matthew Macklin says he wants to give some helpful tips to Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) to help him get ready for his fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in a little over two weeks from now on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

It’s hard to understand what useful advice Macklin could have for Brook to help him against Golovkin, because he was knocked out in the 3rd round by him three years ago in 2013. Macklin ran around the ring trying not to get hit by GGG. Eventually, Golovkin caught up with Macklin and knocked him put with a body shot in the third round.

“I fought Golovkin and didn’t fare too well but hopefully I can pass on a few pointers to Kell and hopefully he can do a much better job,” said Macklin to skysports.com.

Canelo did NOT duck Golovkin fight!

Image: Canelo did NOT duck Golovkin fight!

By Scott Gilfoid: WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith is saying today that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez purposefully ducked the Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight by choosing to go in another direction. Smith says that Canelo built up the hopes of the boxing fans for the GGG fight by talking tough with him inside the ring after his fight against Amir Khan last May, but then he chose to give up his WBC belt rather than fight him.

I personally don’t see Canelo doing anything wrong by not taking the Golovkin fight. I think Canelo should wait five years before he fights Golovkin. If he’s still around by that point, then so be it. He gets the fight. If not, then that’s his problem. I mean, it’s not as if the casual boxing fans were demanding the fight. It was a fight too soon to be made.

Liam Smith says Canelo ducked Golovkin

By Bradley D. Cision:: It looks like even Saul Canelo” Alvarez’s opponent WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith is criticizing Canelo Alvarez for ducking the universally recognized middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. In a recent interview with Fight News, Liam Smith was quoted as saying that Canelo ducked GGG massively and went about everything the wrong way when approaching a potential fight with Golovkin, and calling him out.

“Yeah, ducked him [Golovkin] massively. He went the wrong way about it. He’s being criticized a lot and losing a lot of fans about the way he did it,” said Liam Smith to Fightnews.com about Canelo ducking the Golovkin fight.

Sanchez: Brook is training the wrong way for Golovkin

Image: Sanchez: Brook is training the wrong way for Golovkin

By Patrick McHugh: Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has decided to bulk up in weight for his fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0 32 KOs) for their fight on September 10. Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says he wouldn’t trainer Brook the way he’s doing it with him bulking up to 176. Sanchez feels this isn’t going to work at all against Golovkin, because it’ll make him slower, easier to hit, and less able to get away from him.

Brook and his trainer Dominic Ingle seem to be betting that by being bigger than Golovkin, they’ll have a better chance of beating him on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England. Sanchez seems to believe that Brook would be better served by coming in as trim as he can so that he can use movement and his superb boxing skills to try and out-box Golovkin.

Golovkin to Saunders: “I need WBO belt!”

1-golovkin (2)

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) recently got Saul Canelo” Alvarez’s World Boxing Council title after he chose to cough it up rather than fight him, and now Golovkin is targeting WBO 160lb champion Billy Joe Saunders after the Kell Brook fight. Saunders, 26, has the last remaining middleweight title not in Golovkin’s pressure and he badly wants that belt so that he can hold all the titles in his possession. I have a feeling that Saunders will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the ring before he’d ever fight someone dangerous Golovkin.

Getting Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) to fight him may prove to be impossible, because he appears to be waiting for Canelo to fight him in December. That’s the fight that is being talked about. Canelo is expected to move up to middleweight after he makes light work of WBO 154lb strap holder Liam Smith on September 17, and it’s unlikely that Smith will be any problem for him.

Canelo: Golovkin fight will happen when timing is right

Image: Canelo: Golovkin fight will happen when timing is right

By Allan Fox: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez isn’t ready yet to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, and he’s not saying when he will be ready to take the fight. Canelo says that when the fight does happen in the future, it’ll be Golovkin who will need to try and get ready for him and not the other way around. This means that Canelo expects to be the better fighter of the two when they do step inside the ring. Of course, if Canelo waits out the 34-year-old Golovkin until he’s older and lost his skills, then what he says about the better fighter would definitely apply.

Canelo has a fight next month against WBO light middleweight champion Liam Smith on September 17. After that fight, Canelo says he’ll fight in December, May and then September. His promoters at Golden Boy Promotions have pegged September 2017 for when the Canelo-Golovkin fight will take place. However, Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya has stopped speaking of next year for when the Canelo-Golovkin fight will be taking place.
