Marquez criticizes Golden Boy’s offer to Golovkin for Canelo fight

canelo12

By Dan Ambrose: Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez sees Golden Boy Promotions recent eight-figure offer to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to fight Golden Boy fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as a way for them to swerve around the fight with the Kazakhstan fighter.

Marquez doesn’t see it as a serious offer from Golden Boy, as he feels that a serious offer would be for Golovkin to be given a percentage offer of 30-40 percent of the revenue rather than a flat fee of $10 million for the fight, which is only a fraction of what the fight would likely bring in on HBO pay-per-view. Marquez sees Golden Boy’s offer as a way message that says, ‘We do not want the fight.’

“They are really punishing Gennady Golovkin, because it is a way to avoid Golovkin. It’s a way of saying ‘we do not want the fight. We’re going to pay so much. Would you accept it?”
It does sound like Golden Boy’s figure offer to Golovkiin was a way for them to tell him and his promoter at K2 to get lost and forget about Canelo.

Canelo-Golovkin: Will Golden Boy let it marinate beyond 2017?

canelo855

By Dan Ambrose: It’s no secret that the boxing world wants to see Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin face each other in 2017. It’s a fight that is long overdue, and there’s no reason any longer for it not to take place. Golovkin and his promoters at K2 want the Canelo fight, because they don’t recognize it as growing bigger over time by letting it marinate longer. However, Golovkin and his team are not the ones that are making the decision when the fight will take place.

Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy are calling the shots for when or even if the fight will take place between him and Golovkin. It made news when De La Hoya talked about his offer to Golovkin in revealing to the boxing public, but I think it was believed.

Chavez talks Canelo vs. Golovkin

canelo6427

By Dan Ambrose: Mexican boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez believes that Saul Canelo Alvarez is improving with each and every fight, but he feels that the fans want to see him fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Chavez wants to see Canelo take the fight, as do many followers of the sport. Chavez also thinks that his son former World Boxing Council middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) will eventually fight Canelo.

Chavez says that Julio Jr. is looking to move back down to 160, and he thinks it’s possible. As of now, Chavez Jr. hasn’t fought in the 15 months since struggling to beat middleweight Marcos Reyes by a 10 round decision in July 2015. It doesn’t look like the 30-year-old Chavez Jr. is going to be making an appearance at 160 anytime soon.

Who’s stalling Canelo vs. Golovkin and why

1-alvarez-canelo-khan (2)

By Yannis Mihanos: Opinions fluctuate about who is stalling the mega fight between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Delays many times help building up momentum and increase pay-per-views, but not all the time. I describe todays boxing with the acronym SEB (Sport-Entertainment-Business). Each of these parts work for a different purpose.

Many problems occur when promoters discover new stars. They tend to protect them mainly for selfish reasons. A fighter knows what to do and a promoter knows what to do. When these two do their job as they are supposed to be then the results are also as they are supposed to be: great.

Can Kell Brook come back after eye surgery?

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-76

By Patrick McHugh: Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) did a good job of hanging tough with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin four a portion of their fight on September 10, but he wound up suffering an eye injury that forced the stoppage in the 5th. For all we know, Brook might be ruined goods from the Golovkin fight.

It wouldn’t be the first time that a top notch fighter was ruined by a huge slugger. If Brook falls apart in his first fight coming off his eye surgery, then you have to assume that he wasn’t able to return to the fighter he was before the injury.

Canelo-Golovkin: Stop Marinating

canelo6427

By Earl E: I write this article because of the endless articles and comments blasting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for not making a fight against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Like any other boxing fan, I too would like to see this fight. However, by continuously writing or talking about Alvarez. And, engaging in debates about who is the better fighter, predicting who will win, etc., falls you and I into the Promoter’s trap.

The Promoter wants you to be angry and inpatient that the fight is not instantly happening. And, while doing this, the Promoter’s strategy of marinating the fight is working. When the fight will actually happen, even years down the road, you will pay the high Pay Per View (PPV), simply because you can’t believe it’s finally happening. Come on people, we have seen this strategy before. It’s obviously not the first time, but a blueprint step by step copycat of the pseudo mega-fight.

Saul Alvarez plans 2017 comeback after injury

1-canelosmith_hoganphotos1

By Angel Flowers: WBO Junior Middleweight Champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez expects to be back in the ring by Cinco de Mayo in 2017 after injuring his right thumb in his 9th round knockout win over World Boxing Organization 154lb champion Liam Smith on September 17.

Alvarez had originally wanted to fight again in December and take on a bigger fight next year on the Mexican holiday. Alvarez expects to get some of the big names around his weight class to fight him, but after what he did to Liam Smith and Amir Khan, I doubt he will get many takers in that department.

I suspect only boxers willing to challenge themselves will be the only contenders, people looking for middleweight kingpin Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to finally step up shouldn’t hold their breath.

Alvarez agreed to fight Gennady Golovkin at 160 pounds and offered to double his biggest payday by giving him a guaranteed 10 million dollars. This is a lot for a fighter whose previous high was just under 5 million for fighting the welterweight Kell “Special K” Brook recently on September 10.

Before that, Golovkin’s biggest payday was $2 million in a title unification bout with former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux last October on HBO pay-per-view in GGG’s only failed pay per view, which failed to break 150,000 buys.

Kell Brook was a punching bag for Golovkin says Arum

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-38

By Scott Gilfoid: There seems to be a disagreement with fans of Kell Brook about how well he did in his 5th round knockout loss to middleweight world champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and with some of the more knowledgeable boxing experts like promoter Bob Arum. While Brook’s fans think he was doing a swell job in the first four rounds against Triple G and leading by a three rounds to one scoring going into the 5th, Arum says Brook was little more than a punching bag for Golovkin once he realized that he couldn’t punch.

Arum says the fight wasn’t a real fight because of Brook not having the power to make Golovkin respect him. I have to agree with that. Brook looked like an arm puncher in the ring in that fight, and many of his shots were thrown with him leaping into the air, without him setting his feet like the talented fighters do. In other words, Brook undermined his own power by not setting his feet when throwing his shots.

Sanchez hoping Golovkin-Jacobs can get made

1-golovkin (7)

By Dan Ambrose: With a match against Saul Canelo Alvarez not happening due to the Mexican star being injured and his promoters at Golden Boy not interested in making a fight, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady GGG Golovkin is looking to face WBA “regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs next on December 10. HBO wants the fight, as it’ll be a big one for boxing fans, and Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez wants the fight to take place.

Sanchez is hoping that Jacobs doesn’t price himself out of the fight by asking for more money than the fight can provide. Sanchez suspects that Jacobs will be stripped of his WBA title by the World Boxing Association if he chooses to not take the place, because they’ve ordered the fight.

Ingle: Kell Brook wants next fight in early 2017

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-88

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook has already had surgery on his broken right eye socket that he suffered against knockout artist Gennady Golovkin earlier this month on September 10 in London. Brook wants to get back inside the ring in early 2017 to resume his career. When Brook does get back into action again, he only wants to be fighting the best in boxing.

Brook specifically wants Saul Canelo Alvarez, Amir Khan and Miguel Cotto. That sounds like a good plan on the face of it, as Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) might be able to get one of those names to fight him straightaway in early 2017. However, it might become increasingly difficult for Brook to get all of those big names to fight him unless he starts winning again.
