Broner: Canelo stops Golovkin

Image: Broner: Canelo stops Golovkin

By Dan Ambrose: Light welterweight contender Adrien Broner sees middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) as a vulnerable fighter, who would have lost to welterweight Kell Brook (36-1, 25 Kos) last September if he’d been a 160lb fighter rather than just a 147 pounder.

Broner says Golovkin will lose to Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) by a knockout when the two of them face each other in the near future. Since it’s still not known if Canelo will ever agree to fight Golovkin, it doesn’t matter what Broner’s opinion is on the subject of him and Canelo. At the rate that Canelo is going, we may not ever see him fight Golovkin.

De La Hoya says Canelo could fight Chavez Jr. three times

Image: De La Hoya says Canelo could fight Chavez Jr. three times

By Dan Ambrose: After talking for months about Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fighting middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in 2017, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is now saying that the fight might not happen this year, because there’s a possibility of a rematch between Canelo and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) taking place. In fact, De La Hoya says the Canelo and Chavez Jr. could fight a trilogy against each other.

In that case, Canelo would fight Chavez Jr. on May 6 on the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo, then on the Mexican Independence Day holiday in September, and finally in December. However, De La Hoya might still put Canelo in with Miguel Cotto for December, and then match Canelo against Chavez Jr. in May of 2018 for the third fight between them.

Image: Jacobs lacks the strength to pressure Golovkin says Sanchez

By Dan Ambrose: Gennady Golovkin is expected to be the one that is applying the pressure on Daniel Jacobs for as long as their fight lasts on March 18 on HBO PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York. That’s what Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez believes, and that’s what many boxing fans believe. Sanchez says it bluntly that the 29-year-old Jacobs doesn’t have the strength to back Golovkin up and pressure him for any length of time.

Sanchez thinks it’s going to be Golovkin that will be doing most of the pressuring in the fight. It would be surprising if Jacobs does any pressuring, because it’s not his style when facing big punchers. Sanchez respects the right hand punching power of Jacobs, and he plans on having Golovkin to away from getting hit with that weapon. But he still thinks that Jacobs is going to land his big power shots at times, and he sees him potentially buzzing Golovkin with a big shot at some point in the fight.
