Gennady Golovkin should stop Ducking Canelo and Fight!

Image: Gennady Golovkin should stop Ducking Canelo and Fight!

By Joshua Blessman: Is middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin ducking Canelo? Yes, resoundingly in my opinion. Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy has most recently offered Golovkin $15 million plus some share of the pay-per-view. The previous offer was $10 million. Could Golovkin make anywhere near this amount of money fighting someone else? No way!

His only PPV fight brought in disappointment numbers against David Lemieux. Plus, he has yet to face an A-fighter in a prime or any elite fighters for that matter. Daniel Jacobs will be a step up, but Jacobs is not elite. Golovkin is fighting Jacobs on March 18 on Sky Box Office pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden, New York.

Golovkin says Chavez Jr. will be weak for Canelo fight

Image: Golovkin says Chavez Jr. will be weak for Canelo fight

By Jeff Aranow: Gennady Golovkin views Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s mega-fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) as a “business fight”, and not a particularly fair one for Chavez Jr. Golovkin feels that Chavez Jr. will be too weak to put much of a fight after the 2nd round due to the fight taking place at a catch-weight of 164 ½ pounds.

That’s the weight limit that Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy insisted on for the May 6th fight. Golovkin thinks that Chavez Jr. will be dead at the weight, and unable to do much after 2 rounds.

By Dan Ambrose: Gennady Golovkin still firmly believes that Saul Canelo Alvarez WON’T be fighting him in September like what his promoters had planned. Golovkin thinks that he’s going to be pushed to the side in September so that Canelo can face his Plan-B, C or D. Golovkin says he’s tired of the talk from Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy.

Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is optimistic that the Canelo fight can take place in September, but that may require Golovkin accepting he current offer that was given to him recently.

Boxing: Warriors vs. Wannabes

By Angel Flowers:

THE BUSINESS OF BOXING

Boxing is a business much like any other business, the goal is to make a decent amount of money with the less amount of risk. Some boxers like any business do not mind taking the maximum risk available with little money in order further than brand, like a small company risking it all to advertise during the super bowl. Often though some boxers tend to romanticize themselves as wanting to fight the best opposition available regardless of the risk/rewards ratio, this is often a lie than experienced boxing professionals can see through easily.

Golovkin’s trainer says Jacobs won’t be helped by being heavier

Image: Golovkin’s trainer says Jacobs won’t be helped by being heavier

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Abel Sanchez believes that Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) is making a mistake being so heavy for his upcoming fight this month against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) on March 18. Jacobs weighed in at 174 pounds for the World Boxing Council mandated 30-day weigh-in, and was 9 lbs. heavier than GGG, who weighed in at 165 lbs. With that much weight, Jacobs appears to be looking to beat Golovkin on size rather than speed.

Sanchez sees that as a blunder on Jacobs and his trainer’s part, because he doesn’t see him being any faster with the added weight. In fact, Sanchez believes that Jacobs will be slower for having to carry around all the weight.

Golovkin: “Canelo, he’s nothing”

Image: Golovkin: "Canelo, he's nothing"

By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin isn’t too interested in discussing a fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez after he failed to face him in 2016. Golovkin says he’s tired of the 26-year-old Canelo’s talking, and now sees the Golden Boy Promotions fighter as a “sailfish.” In other words, a big game fish that is very hard to catch.

Image: 24/7 Golovkin/Jacobs this Sat. on HBO

By Jeff Aranow: Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs 24/7 will premiere this Saturday night on March 4 on HBO Sports. The Golovkin-Jacobs special will preview the fight between the two middleweight champions on March 18 on HBO pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in New York. This is a big fight involving two of the best fighters in the 160 lb. division.

The recent news of the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight on May 6 on HBO PPV has kind of taken a lot of the air out of the hype for the Golovkin-Jacobs fight. It’s still a great fight between Golovkin and Jacobs, and arguably a better fight than the Canelo-Chavez Jr. match.
