Roach: Pacquiao’s surgically repaired right shoulder is stronger than his left

Freddie RoachBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach is very impressed with the power that Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) is able to get on his right hand shots from his surgically repaired right shoulder. Roach says he’s not sure what his surgeon did to Pacquiao’s shoulder, but he’s throwing with a lot of power.

In fact, Roach thinks Pacquiao is throwing shots with his surgically repaired shoulder harder than with his left. Pacquiao suffered a torn right rotator cuff last May in his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Pacquiao had surgery days after the fight to repair his injured shoulder, and he’s been out of action ever since.

Roach: Bradley will never be Mayweather

roach5By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t see any improvement in the game of former two division world champion Tim Bradley. Roach sees the same old Bradley, and believes he’s going to revert to his old self when the punches start flying in his fight with Manny Pacquiao next month on April 9.

Roach has heard the talk of Bradley being an improved fighter now that he’s with trainer Teddy Atlas. Roach doesn’t believe it. He doesn’t think Bradley is capable of beating Pacquiao, and he further doesn’t see him as another Floyd Mayweather Jr., who recently beat Pacquiao by a 12 round decision last May.

There’s a lot of talk about how Bradley has a real chance of beating the 37-year-old Pacquiao and sending him into retirement with a big fat loss. Bradley, 32, seems to have aged less than Pacquiao since their last fight in 2014, and it may not matter that he’s not another Mayweather.

Atlas says Bradley can’t let Pacquiao dictate pace of fight

YouTube video

By Chris Williams: Trainer Teddy Atlas wants his fighter Tim Bradley to make sure that he doesn’t let Manny Pacquiao dictate the pace of the fight and nail him with left hands in their fight on April 9 next month.

Pacquiao and Bradley will be fighting for the third time on HBO PPV, and Atlas, who is Bradley’s new trainer, feels that his fighter will beat Pacquiao in this match if he fights a smart fight. Bradley lost the last fight against Pacquiao in 2014, and many boxing fans feel that Bradley deserved to lose the first fight in 2012.

Roach: I have to keep Pacquiao focused on boxing

roach6By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says he’s having to work on keeping Manny Pacquiao focused on the task at hand in getting ready for his next fight against Tim Bradley. Roach says that Pacquiao is still playing basketball at night during training camp, and he wants to keep him focused on boxing so that he’ll be ready for his April 9 fight against the 32-year-old Bradley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s an important fight for the Filipino star because it’s supposed to be his last one.

The real question is why is Pacquiao playing basketball? He’s supposed to be getting ready for what is the most important fight of his career. If Pacquiao loses to Bradley on April 9, it might hurt his political ambitions.

Pacquiao is running for a seat in the senate in the May elections in the Philippines. You would think that another loss to Bradley could mess things up for Pacquiao, causing him to lose the election.

Roach: Pacquiao not showing hesitation in either hand

pac63By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says his star fighter Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) isn’t showing any hesitation in using either of his hands in training camp. Roach started training camp with Pacquiao in the Philippines last Sunday in General Santos City.

Thus far, the 37-year-old Pacquiao isn’t showing any signs of having problems throwing punches with his surgically repaired right shoulder. Pacquiao tore his right rotator cuff in his 12 round decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year in May, and he had surgery to repair the problem in the same month.

It’s now been nine months since his surgery. According to Roach, Pacquiao is looking pretty good right now and not showing any ill effects from his surgery on his shoulder.

Roach to start training Pacquiao on February 14 in Philippines

pac3366By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach will be flying over the Philippines on February 14 to start training Manny Pacquiao in General Santos for his fight against Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao and Bradley are knotted up at 1-1 in the two fights they’ve had with each other. Pacquiao wants to break that tie and end his career and his Bradley series with a victory.

It’s probably not the smartest thing for Pacquiao to do in choosing to train in the Philippines, where he’ll have tons of distractions from boxing fans. He’s also running for a political seat in the senate in an election in May.

You have to wonder whether Pacquiao is looking to kill two birds with one stone by campaigning for the senate spot while also training for the Bradley fight.

Sergey Kovalev beats Andre Ward, says Roach

kovalev-pascal2 (4)By Allan Fox: When the time comes for Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) to face IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (29-0-1, 26 KOs) later on this year in a fight on HBO PPV, trainer Freddie Roach says he sees Kovalev winning that fight. Roach says he likes the 31-year-old Ward a great deal, and he believes he’s a great boxer with a ton of skills.

However, Roach feels that the 6’1” Kovalev has too much punching power and size for Ward to handle. Ward has fought his entire career at super middleweight as a pro, and he’s moving up in weight to challenge Kovalev and the other top fighters in the division.

Pacquiao says he wants to KO Bradley, Roach pleased

pac3366By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says that former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao has told him that he’ll be looking to score a stoppage on April 9 in his third fight against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley on HBO pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao would do well to try and get the 5’6” Bradley out of there, because the last thing he needs is to lose the fight by a controversial decision like he did in their first fight in 2012.

Bradley will be looking to score a knockout on a body shot in this fight, so it makes sense for Pacquiao to look for a KO as fast as he can in this third and likely final fight between them.

Roach: This isn’t the end for Pacquiao

pac63By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach is holding out hope that his fighter Manny Pacquiao, who obviously pays him very, very well, will continue his pro career beyond his third fight against WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on April 9. Pacquiao will be running for a senate seat in the Philippines in May, and Roach isn’t sure whether he would be able to continue his career if elected into that position.

However, Roach still thinks that Pacquiao won’t be able to resist the idea of fighting while holding office in the senate. He just thinks Pacquiao will continue fighting. You can call it wishful thinking on Roach’s part, because the chances aren’t too good that Pacquiao will continue his career beyond his third fight against Bradley, which few boxing fans want to see.
