Frankie Gavin
Gavin plans on changing his diet and moving back down to light welterweight
By Scott Gilfoid: Welterweight Frankie Gavin (11-0, 8 KO’s) is blaming his awful performance last Saturday night against Curtis Woodhouse on fighting out of his weight class instead of looking at the possibility that he lacks the talent to run over good fighters like Woodhouse. Gavin will now be changing his diet and moving back down to light welterweight where he hopes to make more of a mark.
Woodhouse looks to be a better prospect than Gavin
By Scott Gilfoid: For a fighter that has only been boxing for five years, Curtis Woodhouse (15-3, 10 KO’s) has a heck of a lot of talent. I was really impressed with his performance against Frankie Gavin last Saturday night. I had Woodhouse winning that fight by a couple of rounds, but Gavin nicked it by a 12 round split decision by the scores of 117-112, 116-113 and 114-115.
Burns-Cook, Murray-Mitchell, Gavin-Woodhouse and Bellew-McKenzie on Saturday
By William Mackay: This Saturday’s nights card at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England will be stacked from top to bottom with interesting fights. Lightweights John Murray will be facing a ring rusty Kevin Mitchell, WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns defends his tittle against former champion Nicky Cook, welterweight prospect Frankie Gavid fights Curtis Woodhouse and light heavyweight puncher Tony Bellew takes on Ovil McKenzie in a fight that will almost surely end up as a huge slugfest.
Gavin Decisions Mutley; Chisora-Fury fight breaks out in the crowd
By Joe Gorman: Tonight young southpaw prospect (Funtime) Frankie Gavin (10- 0, 8KO’s) took a step up and beat former British champion Young Mutley (29-6, 14KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision to take the WBO inter-continental welterweight title. In a 12 round bout at the 02 arena, Greenwich, London, the score cards were; 119-109, 119-109, 119-109.
Gavin stops Lomax, fails to impress
By William Mackay: Unbeaten British light welterweight prospect Frankie Gavin (9-0, 8 KO’s) stopped 32-year-old Michael Lomax (17-4-1, 2 KO’s) in the 7th round last Saturday night at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London.
McDermott stops Olubamiwo, Gavin defeats Lomax
By Sean McDaniel: After losing his last four fights, Big John McDermott (26-7, 17 KO’s) looked incredibly happy to be facing the inexperienced knockout artist John McDermott TKO 1 Larry Olubamiwo (10-2, 9 KO’s) on Saturday night at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London. McDermott, 30, simply overpowered Olubamiwo with short power shots, knocking him down two times before referee Jeff Hinds finally halted the fight at 1:15 of the 1st round.
Frankie Gavin: The world at his feet?
By Paddy Dwyer: When the boxing arm of the GB Olympic squad returned from Beijing in 2008 with its finest medal haul since 1956, there was one fighter notable by his absence. Birmingham’s Frankie Gavin (8(7)-0) was a pre-tournament pick for many observers to stand out on the world stage and to add an Olympic medal to his World Championship gold from 2007.
Report cards for Chisora, Cleverly, Gavin and Kevin Mitchell
Derek Chisora vs. Carl Baker – Heavyweights
This was yet another mismatch on the card. Derek Chisora (12-0, 7 KO’s) stopped Carl Baker (9-5, 6 KO’s) in the 2nd round of a scheduled 10 round bout. The stoppage was way too quick by referee Richard James Davies in the 2nd round. Chisora landed a hard right hand that sent Baker backing up to the ropes. He wasn’t hurt, just knocked backwards from the shot. Chisora then got sloppy and started throwing a ton of punches, most of which missed badly.
Mitchell stops Mendoza, Cleverly, Chisora, Cox, DeGale, Gavin, Walsh all win
By Sean McDaniel: 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist James DeGale (6-0, 4 KO’s) put on an impressive punching display tonight in stopping a badly over-matched Matthew Barr (14-6, 6 KO’s) in the 2nd round of a scheduled six round bout at the Wembley Arena, Wembley, London. DeGale, 24, was putting everything he had in his shots as he bum rushed Barr in the opening round, pelting him with shots and looking for a quick knockout. Barr mostly covered up and did little.
