Mayweather doesn’t care about titles – He just wants to enhance his legacy

Image: Mayweather doesn't care about titles - He just wants to enhance his legacyBy Jim Dower: Undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO’s) doesn’t care at all about Shane Mosley’s WBA welterweight title and has refused to pay the World Boxing Association’s sanctioning fees for his May 1st fight against Mosley at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather, 33, is beyond titles at this advanced point of his career and is looking to just enhance his consider able legacy by chasing the best fighters in the sport, starting with the 38-year-old Mosley on May 1st. In an article at the Sun, Mayweather says “I did not want to fight for the WBA title. At this point, it’s all about enhancing my legacy. I’ve done a lot of things in this sport, things that a lot of fighters weren’t able to do in the sport and didn’t do in the sport. This fight with Mosley will enhance my legacy.”

Mayweather talks Mosley, Ali, and Sugar Ray Robinson

Image: Mayweather talks Mosley, Ali, and Sugar Ray RobinsonBy Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. feels that he’s a better fighter than Shane Mosley, “Sugar” Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali. On Thursday’s teleconference, the 33-year-old Mayweather, who had previously mentioned that he thought he was better than Robinson (173-19-6, 108 KO’s) and Ali (56-5, 37 KO’s) on the HBO Mayweather-Mosley 24/7 episode 2, said “Things change. It’s out with the old and in with the new. Muhammad Ali was one hell of a fighter, but Floyd Mayweather is the best…I got respect for Sugar Ray Robinson.

Will Mosley outwork Mayweather on May 1st?

Image: Will Mosley outwork Mayweather on May 1st?By Jason Kim: When boxing fans look at the clash between unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO’s) and WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KO”s) a lot of people feel that the 33-year-old Mayweather will be able to win the fight based on his boxing skills and his elusiveness. It could turn out just like what people think it will be, but there’s a lot a good chance that Mosley will simply outwork Mayweather and be too tough for him in close like he was in his last fight against then World Boxing Association welterweight champion Antonio Margarito last year in January.

Mayweather: “I’m better than Muhammad Ali and “Sugar Ray Robinson”

Image: Mayweather: “I’m better than Muhammad Ali and “Sugar Ray Robinson”By Jason Kim: Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO’s) was in fine form in HBO’s Mayweather/Mosley 24/7 episode 2, saying “I think I’m better than Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson” at one point in the broadcast. I don’t know if Mayweather actually believes this or not, but if so, he’s got a lot of work to do to get to rack of the same accomplishments as those two fighters. Robison finished his career with a record of 173-19, 108 KOs, and at one point in his career had a record of 128-1. That’s an incredible record, and I can’t imagine Mayweather ever coming close to equalizing such an accomplishment.

Tszyu might come back for Pacquiao, Mayweather or Mosley bout

Image: Tszyu might come back for Pacquiao, Mayweather or Mosley boutBy William Mackay: According to Fight News, former IBF/WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu might be interested in making a comeback if he had the opportunity to fight one of the mega stars – Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Shane Mosley. It would take one of those fighters for the 40-year-old Tszyu to whip himself in shape for what would likely be his biggest payday of his career. Tszyu hasn’t fought in over five years since being stopped in the 11th round by a young Ricky Hatton in June 2005.

Mosley’s WBA belt won’t be on the line for Mayweather bout

Image: Mosley’s WBA belt won’t be on the line for Mayweather boutBy Eric Thomas: According to the latest boxing news, WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley won’t have his World Boxing Association strap on the line for his May 1st bout against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The reason is because the 33-year-old Mayweather reportedly didn’t want to pay the sanctioning fees for the belt. You can hardly blame Mayweather for not wanting to do that, because even if he wins the title, he likely won’t bother defending it against the top contenders that the WBA has lined up for him nor is Mayweather the type of fighter that likes to collect titles and brag about them as a status symbol.

Prediction: Mayweather-Mosley won’t reach 3 million PPV buys

Image: Prediction: Mayweather-Mosley won’t reach 3 million PPV buysBy Chris Williams: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer predicted months ago that the May 1st bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley would reach 3 million pay-per-view buys by the time the final numbers are in. I don’t that’s going to happen. Actually, I see Mayweather vs. Mosley doing just a little better than 1 million PPV buys. In other words, a little bit better than the 1 million that Mayweather got for his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez last year in September.

Mayweather vs. Mosley: Is Shane too old and deteriorated to beat Floyd?

Image: Mayweather vs. Mosley: Is Shane too old and deteriorated to beat Floyd?By Dave Lahr: If this fight was to have taken place 10 years ago with Shane Mlosley (46-5, 39 KO’s) a young 28-year-old and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO’s) the older 33-year-old opponent, I could see Mosley emerging as the winner of the fight. The problem is Shane is now 38, and hasn’t fought in over a year as he comes into their May 1st fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. I don’t particularly care how well Mosley did against the slow Antonio Margarito in his last fight. Mosley isn’t facing Margarito on May 1st, and he’s coming off of a long layoff.

Floyd Mayweather: Three fights from greatness?

Image: Floyd Mayweather: Three fights from greatness?by Steve Mackay: Floyd Mayweather Jr, love him or hate him, everyone has an opinion on him. That is why he is such a blockbuster pay per view attraction, but is he just three fights away from being viewed as the greatest of all time? The three fights would, of course, are the “Sugar” Shane Mosley, which I see being a really competitive fight due to Shane’s size and speed but I just can’t see past Floyd on this one, the 2nd fight would be against Manny Pacquiao, if they can get over the problems with Bob Arum and drug testing (which I think is a good idea).

Mayweather-Mosley: Look for Floyd to stink out the joint

Image: Mayweather-Mosley: Look for Floyd to stink out the jointBy Chris Williams: I expect for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to start out strong against Shane Mosley on May 1st. I think Mayweather intends on trying to make this fight one of his more exciting fights, but I think Mayweather is going to change his plans abruptly as soon as he tastes some of Mosley’s power in the opening round. All it will take is a shot or two and I see Mayweather running for then rest of the fight, playing keep away with Mosley to avoid getting hit anymore times in the fight.
