Leo Santa Cruz and J’Leon Love on Mayweather-Guerrero card on May 4th

santacruz3By Eric Thomas: Unbeaten middleweight prospect J’Leon Love (15-0, 8 KO’s) will be in action in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero card on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Dan Rafael.

Also on the same card will be former IBF bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (20-0-1, 13 KO’s) possibly facing 37-year-old former two division world champion Rafael Marquez (41-8, 37 KO’s) in a fight that will take place in the super bantamweight division due to Santa Cruz having moved up in weight.

Love, 25, is coming off of a 10 round unanimous decision win over Derrick Findley last month on February 23rd. Love won the fight by the scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91, but he was far from impressive in that fight.

Guerrero: “It’s going to be about who is smarter in the ring”

guerreo991By Lance Lank: In a recent interview with RingTV Robert “the Ghost” Guerrero said, “During the face-off I could see that I was just physically bigger than Floyd…But it’s not about who is going to be the bigger guy in the ring. It’s going to be about who is smarter in the ring. Because, with Floyd Mayweather, no matter how big you are it doesn’t matter.” This is rather obvious though. Anyone could see in the face-off that Guerrero is slightly bigger than Floyd.

Guerrero: Floyd is a little guy; I’m going to be bigger than him on May 4th

guerrero211By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) says he was surprised at how much smaller Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) when the two came together for a face off on Showtime to promote their upcoming May 4th fight on Showtime/CBS pay-per-view. Guerrero looked to be both taller and heavier than Mayweather.

Guerrero said to RingTV “He’s a little guy…he’s not that big…during are face-off, I could see that I was just physically bigger than Floyd. I’m definitely going to be the bigger guy in the ring.”

Technically both guys are the same height, but Guerrero must be a little taller than 5’8” because that’s the listed height of Mayweather. Guerrero says he’s walking around at 156 pounds right now, which means that in a couple of months when they face each other in the ring, Guerrero will be near that weight.

Money Mayweather and the resurrection

mayweather67By Ben Walton:

“I think my grandmother saw my potential first. When I was young, I told her, ‘I think I should get a job.’ She said, ‘No, just keep boxing.’

Floyd Mayweather Jr. [New York Times]

On May 4th “Cinco de Mayo” weekend, Arguably the greatest fighter of his generation WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0-0, 26 KO’s) will take on American born of Mexican heritage Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero in Las Vegas Nevada.

Guerrero, a fighter in his prime, is thought by some to be Floyd’s best opponent since the 2007 fight with Oscar De La Hoya.

De La Hoya: Guerrero will beat Mayweather

de la hoya2By Chris Williams: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya sees WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) pulling off a major upset on May 4th and beating WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) by a 12 round decision to capture his crown.

De La Hoya said to WhamBamSe “It’s going to be a tough fight. It’s going to be a physical fight, which Robert is going to make. And we have to wait and see if Father Time is maybe catching up? [with Floyd] Who knows? I’m going to go with Guerrero by decision.”

Mayweather “The Money Trail”

mayweather23441By Tom Drury: Exciting times for boxing and its followers in the knowledge that Floyd Mayweather Jr has just signed a six fight contract with Showtime/CBS which is reportedly going to net Mayweather a huge $250,000,000 if the contract is fulfilled within 30 months. Mayweather’s inactivity over recent years has been a cause for concern among his fans (including myself) questioning his hunger for the sport and how long his career would continue.

Mayweather is the face of boxing and the sports biggest ppv star/attraction. Fans, experts, analysts and the general public all tune in for a Floyd Mayweather event, the reasons being either to witness his undeniable natural talent inside the ring, others tune in to witness him lose the most famous “0” in fight history.

Mayweather agrees to fight Guerrero toe-to-toe on May 4th

YouTube video
By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. has agreed to fight Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero toe-to-toe in their battle on May 4th on Showtime/CBS after Mayweather asked Guerrero how he wanted their fight to take place. Guerrero said “Let’s do it toe-to-toe”, and Mayweather said “We’re going to do it just how you want it.” I’m sure this will make Guerrero happy because fighting Mayweather toe-to-toe is really the only chance Guerrero has to win this fight.

Guerrero doesn’t have the foot speed or hand speed to beat Mayweather if he chooses to circle the ring and pot shot Guerrero for 12 rounds the way that Mayweather used to fight his opponents. Guerrero doesn’t have the game to win that kind of fight due to his limited speed, his inability to cut off the ring, and his lack of punching power.

Mayweather to Guerrero: I’m not Berto

mayweather2344133By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) appeared to get the better of WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) in their face off on Showtime. Guerrero had problems looking Mayweather in the eyes when Mayweather was close up to him, and most of the time Guerrero kept his eyes on the floor while Mayweather was directly in his face talking trash.

When Guerrero would talk, he’d often keep his eyes on the floor in a submissive, frightened type of way. If this was an actual fight, Mayweather would have been considered the winner by a 1st round knockout because Guerrero looked really intimidated the entire time.

Scenario not so farfetched…..

broner3By James Le Blanc IV: What if I asked you who you thought would win out of a fight between big brother Floyd Mayweather and little brother Adrien Broner? We haven’t even considered this being a possibility but as I look at the landscape of what’s been going on for both Mayweather and Broner, I’m not so sure this is a farfetched scenario. Let’s start with Floyd Mayweather’s landscape.

He just signed a 6 fight deal with Showtime with no clear opponent for September (If you remember Floyd has committed to a date in September and the opponent apparently will not be the presumed Canelo Alvarez). Other than Canelo there are a few names being thrown out there. We know it will not be Pacqauio who must avenge his losses and even when he does the Top Rank and Golden Boy feud will not allow that to happen.
