Malignaggi analyzes Spence vs. Algieri
By Jeff Aranow: On April 16, unbeaten welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (19-0, 16 KOs) will be making a step up fight against former WBO 140lb belt holder Chris Algieri (21-2, 8 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Analyst and former world champion Paulie Malignaggi sees this as a good test for the 26-year-old Spence Jr., because it will give him the chance to show what he’s made of by facing a rugged fighter like Algieri. This isn’t the same Algieri that beat Ruslan Provodnikov in 2014, and lost to Manny Pacquiao, says Malignaggi.

It hasn’t been confirmed yet whether the Spence-Algieri fight will be an eliminator. Algieri isn’t ranked in the top 15 by the International Boxing Federation, so it’s possible that Spence will still need to face someone else for the final eliminator.

2016 Match Up Wishlist: Welterweight
By Ross Walker: Disclaimer: Some fighters on this list may be included in matchups in other divisions, if this is the case they will appear in the heavier division’s list.
Manny Pacquiao vs. Terence Crawford
Unfortunately it looks as though this fight will not be taking place but dare to dream. If this match up were to take place it would be the proverbial “passing of the welterweight torch” type of fight with Manny Pacquiao on his way out and Crawford on his way up.
Stevenson: “C’mon Kovalev – it’s time to fight for the unified title.”

It’s been 30 years since a world championship title fight was fought in Toronto – and the exuberant crowd at Ricoh Coliseum welcomed boxing back with hard-hitting action on the main televised card of the Premier Boxing Champions on Spike.
