By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten highly ranked welterweight/junior middleweight Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) is looking to fight the terribly flawed and mediocre Matthew Hatton on March 5th in what will likely be an easy fight for Alvarez. What I what to know is why doesn’t Alvarez take on a much better fighter than Hatton like unbeaten former Cuban amateur star Erislandy Lara (15-0, 10 KO’s) instead?
Erislandy Lara
Will Martirosyan fight Lara?
By Dan Ambrose: In looking at the Boxrec earlier today, I noticed that unbeaten junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s) is scheduled to fight unbeaten former Cuban national champion Erislandy Lara (13-0, 8 KO’s) on December 4th at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. I find this kind of hard to believe because I can’t imagine that Martirosyan’s trainer Freddie Roach would ever agree to match Martirosyan against a quality fighter like Lara. Roach says that he would never match one of his fighters against someone he thinks they don’t have a good chance of beating.
Lara defeats Perez, Velasquez and Wilder all victorious
By Sam Gregory: In the main event on ShoBox The New Generation from the Hard Rock Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada undefeated Cuban sensation southpaw Erislandy Lara 10-0 with 6 KO’s takes on 33 year old Danny Perez 34-6 with 17 KO’s in a scheduled 10 round bout in the junior middleweight division.
In the first round Perez came out with conviction throwing his jab and backing Lara up; the fight went to the center of the ring where both men traded body shots with Lara getting the better of the exchange. Lara landed a few low shots and was warned by the referee.
Erislandy Lara Defeats Boone, Fails to Impress
By Eric Thomas: Undefeated former three time Cuban National amateur champion Erislandy Lara (7-0, 4 KO’s) defeated journeyman Darnell Boone (16-12-2, 6 KO’s) by a dully six round unanimous decision on Friday nights at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The final judges’ scores were 59-55, 60-54 and 60-54.
Though Not Headliners, Wilder and Lara Are Worth Our Attention
By Brock Kaiser: It has been said that boxing, perhaps more than any other sport, separates those with the talent and heart to succeed with others whose ability (or lack there of) is based purely on hype, as hype can only take you so far before having to prove it in the ring.
Consider the case of Charles “Kid” McCoy:
In addition to being one of the most controversial and popular figures in boxing history, McCoy is also a member of Boxing’s Hall of Fame.

Yuriorkis Gamboa did it again. ARENA’s fast rising featherweight superstar scored his next impressive k.o. win stopping veteran Walter Estrada in only 35 seconds. “El Ciclon” lived up to his name simply blowing away his opponent with one of his overwhelming combinations.
