By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday night former WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) faces Cuban Erislandy Lara (15-0, 10 KO’s) in a 12 round bout at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It’s incredibly difficult to get excited about this fight because Williams was knocked cold in his last bout in a second round knockout loss to Sergio Martinez last year in November, while his opponent Lara fought to a controversial 10 round majority draw with fringe contender Carlos Molina in March of this year.

Summer Boxing: Alexander-Matthysse, Klitschko-Haye, Williams-Lara, Marquez-Ramos, Klitschko-Adamek
By Alexis Aviles: Boxing in the summer is usually the slow point of the year gearing you for the more anticipated fights happening later in the fall. A year ago the most we got was Juan Diaz vs Juan Manuel Marquez in their second fight, which failed to live up to their first fight. We also had Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman which saw Cotto win by body-shot KO after Foremans leg gave out a few times. Jean Pascal vs Chad Dawson in a fight that as Pascal was getting knocked out, the fight was stopped and the technical decision was given to Pascal.
Williams vs. Lara on July 9th: Paul wants a 3rd fight with Sergio Martinez
By Dan Ambrose: Former two time World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) goes up against unbeaten Cuban Erislandy Lara (15-1, 10 KO’s) next month on July 9th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This is good fight but a very risky one for the 29-year-old Williams, as he’s coming off of a 2nd round knockout loss to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in November of last year in an especially bad knockout for Williams.

Lara-Molina fight to a draw, Jhonson stops Gutierrez
By Jim Dower: In an all around disappointing fight, unbeaten junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara (15-0-1, 10 KO’s) struggled to a 10 round majority draw with Mexican Carlos Molina (17-4-2, 5 KO’s) on Friday night at the Cosmopolitan Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The final judges’ scores were 97-93 for Molina, 95-95 and 95-95.

Lara, ranked #5 WBA, #6 IBF, #10 WBC in the junior middleweight division, is looking to impress in this ESPN fight to further show off his skills for boxing fans. Why doesn’t Saul Alvarez fight Erislandy Lara
By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten highly ranked welterweight/junior middleweight Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) is looking to fight the terribly flawed and mediocre Matthew Hatton on March 5th in what will likely be an easy fight for Alvarez. What I what to know is why doesn’t Alvarez take on a much better fighter than Hatton like unbeaten former Cuban amateur star Erislandy Lara (15-0, 10 KO’s) instead?
Will Martirosyan fight Lara?
By Dan Ambrose: In looking at the Boxrec earlier today, I noticed that unbeaten junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s) is scheduled to fight unbeaten former Cuban national champion Erislandy Lara (13-0, 8 KO’s) on December 4th at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. I find this kind of hard to believe because I can’t imagine that Martirosyan’s trainer Freddie Roach would ever agree to match Martirosyan against a quality fighter like Lara. Roach says that he would never match one of his fighters against someone he thinks they don’t have a good chance of beating.
Lara defeats Perez, Velasquez and Wilder all victorious
By Sam Gregory: In the main event on ShoBox The New Generation from the Hard Rock Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada undefeated Cuban sensation southpaw Erislandy Lara 10-0 with 6 KO’s takes on 33 year old Danny Perez 34-6 with 17 KO’s in a scheduled 10 round bout in the junior middleweight division.
In the first round Perez came out with conviction throwing his jab and backing Lara up; the fight went to the center of the ring where both men traded body shots with Lara getting the better of the exchange. Lara landed a few low shots and was warned by the referee.
