Stevens KOs Roman; Adamek schools Guinn; Mchunu tops Chambers

roman2By Jim Dower: Middleweight contender #6 IBF, #10 WBC, Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) may have set himself up with a title shot against WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin by destroying the hard hitting Saul Roman (37-10, 31 KO’s) in a 1st round knockout in a night full of mismatches on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Stevens dropped Roman twice with big left hooks to the head. After the 2nd knockdown, which left Roman flat on his back on the canvas and badly hurt, the fight was then halted at 2:26. In winning the fight, Stevens captured the vacant NABF middleweight title.

Eddie Chambers talks about August 3rd cruiserweight debut on NBC

chambers435By Ian Aldous: Eddie Chambers (36-3) will embark on the next chapter of his career when he drops to cruiserweight after a long and successful time as a heavyweight that culminated in a world title challenge against Wladimir Klitschko (lost by KO12) in 2010. On August 3rd at the Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, CT, Eddie will take on the relatively unknown South African, Thabiso Mchunu (13-1) live on NBC Sports Network. Last week Eddie took some time to speak with me over the phone ahead of another session in the gym.

As previously mentioned, his campaign at heavyweight was met with defeats by only the best in the division: Wladimir Klitschko, Alexander Povetkin and most recently a debatable decision defeat to Tomasz Adamek that we’ll get to later! Having regularly fought opponents bigger and heavier than him, a drop down to 200lbs was a logical move for Chambers.

Huck not interested in Eddie Chambers fight

chambers343By Allan Fox: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (36-3, 18 KO’s) made it clear today that he’s not in the least interested in facing former heavyweight world title challenger Eddie Chambers (35-2-1, 25 KO’s) in a fight in the near future. Chambers, 30, tried to call Huck out on twitter today, and it got kind of ugly with both guys trash talking each other.

Huck said on his twitter “You [Chambers] are and remain a zero. I’m the world champion… You’re a janitor. You’re too weak, you have to prove yourself first. Dog whom thou wilt go ko come to me.”

Chambers responded: “Why don’t these cruiserweight champs ever unify?.. Because they all p**** hiding in the homeland!

The Worst decisions in 2012: Abril-Rios, Adamek-Chambers, Adamek-Cunningham

rios434By Dan Ambrose: I must say that heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KO’s) has been quite lucky in 2012 with his very controversial decision wins over Eddie Chambers and Steve Cunningham. Those two fights along with former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios’s win over Richard Abril has got to the worst decisions in 2012 among well-known fighters.

Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) was given a split decision over Abril on April 14th of this year at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight, seen by thousands of people, was completely dominated by Abril for the entire 12 rounds of the fight. Rios fought well enough to deserve maybe two rounds at the most, as he was getting with clean pinpoint shots from the Cuban Abril throughout the fight and was like watching Floyd Mayweather Jr. pick apart a limited Ricky Hatton.
