After the final press conference on Thursday, Eddie took some time to talk with me about the fight.

The first thing that hits me about this fight is the fact that it’s something we don’t see very often. It’s an exciting and competitive fight between two heavyweight fighters with very good records. It’s something the heavyweight division has been starved of in recent years amidst the multitude of one-sided beatings and undeserving challenges to the Klitschko thrones. “I’m excited to be a part of it. I’ve always been the kind of guy who doesn’t back down from a challenge and I’m sure Tomasz is one of those guys as well. This is the kind of fight with not only two guys with good records but two guys with reputations for great fights. When we come together, it’s gonna be a fantastic night.”

The ultimate goal for both men would obviously be a plane ticket to Germany and the opportunity to once again take on a Klitschko brother. Would a win on Saturday night secure a world heavyweight title fight for ‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers? “It’s a possibility. The winner of this fight is considered to be the next guy to go for the heavyweight championship. I think that makes this fight even better, there’s so much at risk if you lose and neither one of us is gonna want to give that up. The opportunity speaks for itself and that’s what’s gonna push this fight to be one of the great ones.”

It doesn’t take a genius or a nerdy sports fan to realize that America has been blessed with truly great heavyweight champions over the decades. With the Klitschko-domination of the division, it must be tough for an American heavyweight to carve a name for himself amongst the wealth of NFL, MLB and NBA stars of today. “If you look at the 90’s, you know, you had Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Ray Mercer, Foreman, it was a who’s who all the time. Now you have guys who can be considered good but not as good as (those guys). There’s guys back in the 90’s who wouldn’t have been able to beat the Klitschko brothers, that’s the truth. It makes us as fighters look like we’re not capable, it’s just that we have a tall order to beat a guy who’s 6’7” and 244lbs and do it convincingly, it’s very difficult.”

In the chief-supporting heavyweight bout, undefeated Bryant Jennings (13-0) looks to further his blossoming career when he takes on Steve Collins (25-1-1).

‘Heavyweights Collide’ is presented by Main Events in association with Peltz Boxing, Ziggy Promotions and Goossen Tutor Promotions.

The fight card will be broadcast in the UK on Premier Sports TV (Sky Channel 433) live from 1:15am on Sunday morning.
