Also on the card will be heavyweight Olympic bronze medal winner for the United States Deontay Wilder (5-0, 5 KOs) and Cuban light middleweight prospect Erislandy Lara (6-0, 4 KOs, both fighters going up against still to be determined opponents.

Wilder Destroys Rabotte
By Jason Kim: 2008 U.S. Olympic Bronze Medalist Deontay Wilder (4-0, 4 KOs) kept his perfect record of knockouts intact with a 1st round knockout against a badly over-matched Joseph Rabotte (3-6, 1 KOs) in a scheduled four-round bout at the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois. The 6’7” Wilder dropped Rabotte three times in the bout, and after the 3rd knockdown – a crushing right hand that left Rabotte collapsed in the corner – the fight was stopped by referee Celestino Ruiz at 2:33 of the round. Wilder, 23, looked very powerful, at least with his right hand.
News – Jacobs vs. Varela this Friday
By Jason Kim: Undefeated super middleweight prospect Daniel Jacobs (14-0, 13 KOs) will be appearing this Friday night on ESPN against Nicaraguan Jose Varela (23-5, 16 KOs) at the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois. The bout has mismatch written all over it as Varela, 31, has lost his last three bouts and normally fights two divisions below Jacobs at light middleweight. The only good thing I can think of in this fight is that Varela has a good chin and has been able to stand in there against big punchers like Edison Miranda and Richard Gutierrez without being knocked out. Then again, Varela was knocked out in the 2nd round by Marco Antonio Rubio six years ago in 2003, so it’s hard to tell what will happen with him.
Wilder Stops Cox
By Jim Dower: 2008 heavyweight Olympic Bronze Medalist (1-0, 1 KOs) got off to a successful start to his professional boxing career by stopping Ethan Cox (2-3-1, 1 KOs) in the 2nd round of a scheduled four-round bout on Saturday night at the Vanderbilt University Memorial Gymnasium, in Nashville, Tennessee. Wilder, 23, dropped Cox twice in the 2nd round with big right hands to the head. After the second knockdown, the fight was stopped at 2:54 of the round.
