Deontay: Malik Scott said it was my left hook that stopped him

deontay645By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) cleared up the confusion about which of his two powerful shots that did the job in knocking out Malik Scott (36-2-1, 13 KO’s) in the 1st round last Saturday night at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Deontay said that Scott told him it was his left hook that put him on the canvas in the 1st round.

With the way that Deontay nailed Scott, it was hard to tell which of his punches planted the 33-year-old Scott for the 10 count.

“I spoke to Malik Scott and he said it was my left hook that did it,” Deontay said. “He’ll do great things, though.”

Deontay Wilder: I’ll fight Arreola and Stiverne at the same time

deontay111By Scott Gilfoid: After destroying Malik Scott (36-2-1, 13 KO’s) in an impressive 1st round knockout last night in their WBC heavyweight eliminator bout, Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) is ready to fight the winner of the May 10th fight between Chris Arreola and Bermane Stiverne for the WBC heavyweight title later on this year. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is already talking about where to stage the Deontay vs. Arreola or Stiverne fight, and he’s thinking about putting the fight in Los Angeles at the The Forum.

As for who the 6’7″ Deontay will be facing, he doesn’t really have a preference between the two fighters. In fact, Deontay says he’d feel comfortable if they tossed both Stiverne and Arreola in the ring at the same time for him to knockout without his big power shots one at a time.

Deontay Wilder smashes Malik Scott for 31st consecutive KO

004 Wilder vs Scott IMG_1297(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Deontay Wilder’s 1st round stoppage win over Malik Scott (36-2-1, 13 KO’s) tonight showed the kind of punching power that the 6’7″ Wilder has in his body, and it still has fans in disbelief. The knockout was so quick and so final that many fans are having a difficult time trying to digest what Deontay did in winning so easily at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, in Puerto Rico.

This is the same Malik Scott who was beating Dereck Chisora until getting hit with a rabbit punch in the 6th round of their controversial 9 count fight in July of last year. This is the same Scott who held Vyacheslav Glazkov to a 10 round draw last year in February in a fight that many boxing fans saw Scott winning.

Garcia beats Herrera by controversial decision; Deontay Wilder annihilates Scott

002 Garcia vs Herrera IMG_2184(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KO’s) defeated challenger Mauricio Herrera (20-4, 7 KO’s) by a 12 round majority decision on Saturday night at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The final judges scores were 114-114, 116-112, 116-112.

Herrera seemed to be the smarter fighter, and the one who took most of all of the last 6 rounds. Herrera landed more punches, and was the busier fighter by far. Garcia’s nose was bloodied and his eyes swollen up.

Herrera said “I felt like I won the fight. I know it was close, but I felt like I won the fight.”

Does Deontay Wilder keep his KO streak alive tonight?

wilder6(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Allan Fox: Unbeaten American heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) will be looking to add his 31st consecutive knockout tonight in his WBC heavyweight eliminator bout against the once beaten Malik Scott (36-1-1, 13 KO’s) at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, in Puerto Rico. Wilder, 28, has been able to stop his first 28 foes during his 6-year pro career, but he’s not faced anyone as good as Scott.

It’s been easy for Deontay up until now because of the match-making that Golden Boy Promotions had done for him. Against the guys that Deontay has faced, most of the top heavyweight contenders. But there’s no denying the huge one-punch power that Wilder has in his right hand, and we should see that tonight unless Scott is able to get to his chin before Wilder can get his own offense going.

Malik Scott wearing a paper bag over his head doesn’t mean he’s coming to lose to Deontay

By Scott Gilfoid: A lot of people are making a big deal about how Malik Scott (36-1-1, 13 KO’s) wore a paper bag over his head for his weigh-in with Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) on Friday. Some fans have things twisted by thinking that Scott wearing a bag over his head is code for him bagging it on Saturday night and just coming into the fight to flop on the canvas for the 10 count the first time Deontay nails him with a halfway respectable right hand.

Malik would never take a dive in the fight, as he’s not a quitter and he’s not afraid of the talented 6’7″ Deontay. To be sure, Scott may end up losing the fight by an early knockout, but he lose because he went out and flopped on the canvas like a big fish.

Deontay thinks Haye should stay retired, but he’s willing to fight him

deontay5465By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) thinks British heavyweight David Haye’s recent shoulder injury is a result of the punishment that he’s taken since moving up to the heavyweight division in 2008. The 6’7″ Deontay sees Haye as a cruiserweight fighting in the wrong division, and he thinks Haye should stay retired rather than try to make a come back. But with that said, Deontay would be more than willing to fight Haye if he’s up for it. He’d also like to face British heavyweights Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury as well.

Deontay has a big fight this Saturday night against Malik Scott (36-1-1-, 13 KO’s) in their WBC heavyweight title eliminator bout at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Deontay Wilder could be the next American heavyweight champion

wilder54By Scott Gilfoid: Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) will be trying to accomplish two tasks this Saturday night when he faces Malik Scott (36-1-1, 13 KO’s) on Showtime at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Deontay’s first goal is to get the win to become the mandatory WBC heavyweight challenger in order to face the winner of the Bermane Stiverne vs. Chris Arreola bout later this year.

Deontay’s second goal is to win by a stoppage to give him his 31st consecutive knockout. That goal is obviously secondary to Deontay winning the fight to become the WBC mandatory challenger. Deontay mainly wants to get a win over Scott so that he can lock himself in as the mandatory challenger for the WBC belt.
