Stiverne: I’m going to burp Deontay like a baby

stiverne52By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) says that there’s nothing that can save challenger Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night on January 17th.

Stiverne says he’s going to punish the 29-year-old Deontay by making him feel a lot of pain during the beating he plans on giving him before he finally puts him out of his misery by knocking him out. Stiverne figures that Deontay will fall apart once he starts feeling hard punches for the first time in his pro career.

Stiverne: My specialty is fighting tall fighters [like Deontay Wilder]

stiverne66By Scott Gilfoid: With a week to go before his title defense against unbeaten knockout artist Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs), WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) has gone from being a quiet and humble champion to that of an overconfident individual who talks as if he walks on water. Stiverne and the 6’7” Deontay will be meeting up next Saturday night on January 17th on Showtime.

Stiverne, 6’2”, doesn’t see his lack of size as being a problem for him in this fight, as he says he’s always done well against taller fighters. Stiverne talks about his amateur days many, many years ago when he was beating taller fighters.

Top 5 bouts for January

deontay4444By Gav Duthie: January can often be a quiet month for top level boxing but there are some very interesting fights happening in the next few weeks. Here is the list of my top 5.

(5) Anthony Joshua 10-0 (10) v Kevin Johnson  29-6-1 (14)
31 January
London

Kevin Johnson may have lost his last 3 fights but is a very respected tough and skilful heavyweight among his peers. At present Johnson has never been stopped and was one of only a few to take Vitaly Klitschko the scheduled distance. Johnson’s lack of title success is largely due to a lack of effort as opposed to skill and this is a huge step up for AJ. Joshua is likely to get some much needed rounds under his belt in this one but if he does knock Johnson out then this will gain him massive respect.

Fury: If Deontay doesn’t KO Stiverne in first four rounds, he loses

deontay443By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Tyson Fury believes that the talented 6’7” American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) will be in a race against time on January 17th when he challenges WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) for his title.

Fury thinks that Deontay has to score a knockout in the first four rounds or else he’ll risk getting beaten by Stiverne. Fury doesn’t say why he feels that Deontay has to score a quick knockout in order to win, but it could be that he thinks that Deontay will run out of gas and end up getting taken out by one of Stiverne’s big shots.
