Fury: If Deontay doesn’t KO Stiverne in first four rounds, he loses

deontay443By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Tyson Fury believes that the talented 6’7” American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) will be in a race against time on January 17th when he challenges WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) for his title.

Fury thinks that Deontay has to score a knockout in the first four rounds or else he’ll risk getting beaten by Stiverne. Fury doesn’t say why he feels that Deontay has to score a quick knockout in order to win, but it could be that he thinks that Deontay will run out of gas and end up getting taken out by one of Stiverne’s big shots.

Deontay’s fights have been four rounds and under, so he’s not had the opportunity to work on his stamina. Deontay ways he’s worked on his stamina in the gym while doing a lot of sparring, but of course there’s no way of knowing for sure if his stamina will hold together unless tested in battle.

“Stiverne is a good fighter, he beat Chris Arreola. I see Wilder early, Stiverne late. Wilder within the first four rounds and if he doesn’t get him out of there, Stiverne beats Wilder,” Fury said via Boxnation.com. “They have got to be up there with the best heavyweights in the world.”

I don’t think Deontay will gas out after four rounds. If anything, I think he’ll be just as strong as he was in the first four. He has a really relaxed way of fighting that doesn’t use up a lot of energy, so I don’t think he’ll have any problems sticking around for the full 12 rounds and punching Stiverne again and again with right hands.

The thing that could endanger Deontay in a fight that goes beyond four rounds is the amount of times that Stiverne will be able to land some of his own power shots. While Stiverne will almost surely be outgunned in every round, he will be able to land some of his big power shots in the fight. The longer the fight goes the more shots that Stiverne will be able to accumulate.

If Deontay’s chin isn’t as good as some people think it is then he could possibly get knocked out if Stiverne is able to land enough of his big shots. However, every punch that Stiverne throws will come at a cost in terms of him eating big punches from Deontay. It’s not as if Stiverne won’t be getting hit back in this fight, and he’s going to have to eat the biggest shots that he’s ever taken beore.
