Deontay Wilder – Eric Molina to be announced on Thursday

deontay1By Scott Gilfoid: This Thursday on May 14th a news conference is scheduled for the announcement of the June 13th fight between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) and challenger Eric Molina (23-2, 17 KOs). The fight will be taking place on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Bartow Arena, in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.

With this being a voluntary defense for the 6’7” Wilder, he’s choosing a lower level ranked contender in 33-year-old Molina. But this is a perfectly suitable opponent for a voluntary defense because Molina has the kind of fire power and talent to make it an interesting fight.

Deontay Wilder: Pacquiao ought to be ashamed of himself

Bermane Stiverne vs Deontay WilderBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder doesn’t think too much of former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao for failing to disclose his shoulder injury well before the fight last Saturday night against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Wilder thinks Pacquiao should have not talked about the injury after the fight the way he did. Wilder believed that Mayweather was simply too good for Pacquiao in this fight, and that’s why he won it, not because of Pacquiao’s shoulder injury that he came into the fight with.

Deontay Wilder v Eric Molina? You can’t be serious

deontay32 - Copy (2)By Gav Duthie: The curse of the voluntary defence strikes again. Like a coiled snake the champion is picking on the weakest prey available to strike on when the choice is given. After Deontay Wilder 33-0 (32) became the first American since 2006 to win a heavyweight world title he talked Klitschko, he talked Fury and 5 months later the rumors are that he is going to fight Eric Molina 23-2 (17).

Voluntary defence

I feel like a broken record talking about voluntary defences but it is with justification. The idea is to not impose a mandatory on a brand new champion so as to give them a choice.

Deontay Wilder vs. Eric Molina possible for June

deontay4444By Scott Gilfoid: #12 WBC Eric Molina (23-2, 17 KOs) is one of the names that is being mentioned as a possibility for the first title defense for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) this June, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

Molina, 33, is a good serviceable heavyweight with a five-fight winning streak going for him. He had some difficulties three years ago when he stepped it up a level to face Chris Arreola in 2012 and was subsequently knocked out in the 1ast round. But since that fight, the 33-year-old Molina has turned things around with five straight wins with his last three coming by knockout.

Deontay Wilder: They’ll give the win to Pacquiao if it’s close with Mayweather

1-MAYPAC WEIGH IN-TRAPPFOTOS-3996By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is picking Floyd Mayweather Jr. to defeat Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night. Wilder sees Mayweather’s experience, strong defense and his ability to adapt to any situation as the reason why he’s picking Mayweather to come out of the 12 round fight with his hand raised by referee Kenny Bayless at the end of it.

Wilder thinks that if the fight is really close the judges will give it to Pacquiao. Deontay says there’s too much money in a rematch between the two fighters.

Deontay Wilder: Klitschko looked old against Jennings

deontay73By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) says he was surprised at how old IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) looked recently in him having to struggle to defeat the light hitting American Bryant Jennings (19-1, 10 KOs) last month in their fight on April 25th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Wladimir won the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision, but he definitely looked old and fought like an older guy that couldn’t pull the trigger on his shots anymore.

Deontay Wilder to fight on 6/13

deontay899By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) will be back in the ring next month on June 13th looking to extend his unbeaten streak against a still to be determined opponent in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wilder, 6’7”, saw his long 32-fight knockout streak end last January in his fight against WBC heavyweight champion Stiverne, but he was still able to get an easy victory. Deontay would have had an excellent chance of scoring yet another knockout if Stiverne had come to fight, but he looked like he was just there to survive after taking some vicious shots to the head in the 2nd and 7th rounds.
