Deontay Wilder: They’ll give the win to Pacquiao if it’s close with Mayweather

1-MAYPAC WEIGH IN-TRAPPFOTOS-3996By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is picking Floyd Mayweather Jr. to defeat Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night. Wilder sees Mayweather’s experience, strong defense and his ability to adapt to any situation as the reason why he’s picking Mayweather to come out of the 12 round fight with his hand raised by referee Kenny Bayless at the end of it.

Wilder thinks that if the fight is really close the judges will give it to Pacquiao. Deontay says there’s too much money in a rematch between the two fighters.

Presumably that’s why he feels that the judges will give it to Pacquiao. Mayweather already said that he won’t give Pacquiao a rematch if he beats him, but if Mayweather loses the fight, it might change his mind. It would obviously look bad if Mayweather walks away from the defeat and faces someone else in his next fight in September at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. I mean, Mayweather would also have to fight Pacquiao again if he didn’t want to get dumped on by fans, and if he wanted to make sure that his next fight brings in huge PPV buys.

“I like Floyd in this fight,” Wilder said to sbnation. “I think he’s going to win for the simple fact that Floyd has been on top for a long time. He can hurt, and he knows how to adapt to fighters. That’s a big things. That’s a great skill to have, and I feel he has the best defense in the world. He barely gets hit and he rolls all of them. The first guy that I saw that had the technique down was Maidana in coming with the overhand. Still, Floyd was able to adapt. But this is boxing. Something tells me that if this is a super close fight, they’re going to give it to Manny. They’re making a lot of money in this fight, but just think of a draw or a rematch; that’s even more money. Floyd’s a businessman. But if I pick, I pick Floyd for the win.”

Deontay is a very talented fighter and he must see something in Floyd’s game for him to want to pick him over Manny.

Personally, I see the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight as a tossup. It really could go either way. Both guys have been looking good lately, and I don’t know if either guy has the key to winning the fight in a conclusive manner. But there is serious cash that can be made by these two guys if they turn around and do it again next September. I mean, that’s four months from now and they could start hyping the fight nearly immediately and make it a bigger fight than this one.
