Roach believes he’s helped improve Miguel Cotto

cotto21312By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach has the tough task of trying to resurrect Miguel Cotto’s failing career. Roach is the latest of the trainer’s that Cotto has signed up with, and it’s possible that we could see Roach gone as well if he’s not able to magically bring the aging soon to be 33-year-old Cotto back to his glory days before the beating he took from Antonio Margarito in their first fight in 2008.

Roach believes he’s brought about improvement in Cotto’s game. How much improvement he’s not saying, but it’s likely that the improvement is negligible and not enough to have Cotto beating the likes of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Austin Trout.

Miguel Cotto vs. Rodriguez this Saturday on HBO

cotto24By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO’s) fights Delvin Rodriguez (28-6-3, 16 KO’s) this Saturday night on October 5th in an important fight for him on HBO at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Cotto has lost his last 2 fights, and he has to win this one if he wants to remain one of the major players in the sport.

HBO will probably still televise Cotto’s fights if he loses to Rodriguez, but it’ll be difficult to take Cotto seriously as a fighter if he can’t even beat the likes of Rodriguez. This guy isn’t in the same league as Cotto’s last two conquerors Austin Trout and Floyd Mayweather Jr., so Cotto shouldn’t lose to him in theory. But the problem Cotto hasn’t looked great even in the fights he’s won in his last three victories.

Delvin Rodriguez talks about taking on the challenge of Miguel Cotto

rodriguez23By Ian Aldous: On October 5th, Delvin Rodriguez (28-6-3) looks to capitalize on the chance of a lifetime when he faces future hall-of-famer and multi-time former world champion, Miguel Cotto (37-4), at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Cotto will be aiming to get back on track with a win while Rodriguez hopes to hijack the top of the light-middleweight rankings with a win of his own.

Just over a week ago, Delvin gave me some of his time to give his thoughts on what is potentially a career defining fight for him.

Throughout his career, Rodriguez has been in the ring with some decent names like Pawel Wolak and just last year in an unsuccessful world title challenge against Austin Trout (who then went on to beat Cotto).

Roach: Cotto’s fight with Delvin Rodriguez is a must-win

roach54By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach sees Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO’s) with his back literally against the wall in his fight in 2 weeks against fringe junior middleweight contender Delvin Rodriguez (28-6-3, 16 KO’s) on October 5th at the Amway Center, in Orlando, Florida, USA.

Roach has tinkered with the 32-year-old Cotto’s fighting style, and he now has him throwing a lot more left hooks to the body compared to what he’s been doing in his recent bouts. Roach believes bringing back Cotto’s body punching will be the fountain of youth for the aging Puerto Rican star. I’m not so sure if that’s going to bring about any real change in him.

Miguel Cotto v Delvin Rodriguez on Oct 5th: But Why?

cotto3By Sevak Sarkisian: As every boxing fan knows, boxing super star and future hall of famer Miguel Cotto (37-4 30 KO’s) will be making his return to the ring in October against contender Delvin Rodriguez (28-6 KO’s).

I have followed Miguel Cotto’s career since HBO first started televising his fights back in the early 2000’s. I’ve, watched him grow and develop as a fighter and become a world champion. I have witnessed his triumphs and defeats. I have also witnessed him decline as a fighter.

Miguel Cotto has accomplished great things in the sport of boxing. He is a three division world champion and holds wins over many good and great fighters. He has wins over Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Antonio Margarito, Ricardo Mayorga and many others.

Miguel Cotto vs. Delvin Rodriguez do-or-die fight to be announced tomorrow

cotto8By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) will be meeting with opponent Delvin Rodriguez (28-6-3, 16 KO’s) tomorrow, July 23rd in Orlando, Florida to announce their fight on October 5th.

This will be a 12 round bout and HBO will be televising it despite no title being on the line and Cotto having lost his last two fights. It’s one of those do or die fights for Cotto, because he can’t afford to lose to a guy like Rodriguez if he wants to remain in the hunt for the important fights against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Miguel Cotto vs. Delvin Rodriguez being finalized for October 5th

cotto23By Dan Ambrose: A fight between Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO’s) and Delvin Rodriguez (28-6-3, 16 KO’s) is being finalized by the two fighters for an October 5th clash at a still to be determined venue in Florida. Cotto has lost his last two fights to Austin Trout and Floyd Mayweather Jr., and he can’t afford to lose this fight if he wants to remain in the picture for more important fights.

Rodriguez, 33, hasn’t beaten a decent fighter since his win over Pawel Wolak in December of 2011. Rodriguez was easily beaten by Trout in a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision loss last year in June. Since then, Rodriguez has beaten George Tahdooahnippah and Freddy Hernandez both by knockouts.
