Danny Garcia with tough task against Lucas Matthysse

matthysse22By Allan Fox: On paper the September 14th fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) and WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) is supposed to be a competitive match-up, but in reality this fight could be over very quickly if Garcia tries to trade shots with the Argentinian Matthysse at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

We just saw Garcia get stunned in his last fight against Zab Judah by some of his power shots, and Garcia barely won that fight. Matthysse has a loss against Judah, but only a really small minority of fans actually believes that Matthysse lost that fight.

Garcia vs. Matthysse media tour cancelled – again

matthysseBy Dan Ambrose: The three-city media tour to hype the September 14th fight between WBC light welterweight interim champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) and WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) has been cancelled, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

Garcia-Matthysse is the co-feature bout on the mega pay per view fight card headlined by Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Garica and Matthysse were originally supposed to take part in a three-city media tour earlier in traveling to New York, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles, but Matthysse didn’t want to take time away from his training in Argentina to come over to the U.S. to take part in the tour.

Lucas Matthysse vs. Danny Garcia: Are you ready?

matthysse45By Gerardo Granados: Two of the top prime light welterweights Lucas Matthysse and Danny Garcia will be facing each other on September 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Not a single boxing fan, no matter if he is a casual or a hardcore fan, can miss this fight which has the potential to become a fight of the year award nominee.

Neither Garcia nor Matthysse is a boxing technician or a defensive wizard, so we all can expect them to engage and trade vicious lefts and rights since the first bell ring.

How many times has the reader awaited for two prime young lions to engage in the past few years? There is a fight that everybody used to talk about that never got made, and to be honest it might be past due yet.

30-day weights: Matthysse 146.6 lbs., Garcia 151 lbs.

matthysse543By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) and WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) both weighed in for their mandatory 30-day weigh-in for their fight next month on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Matthysse weighed in at 146.6 lbs., according to Fightnews.com.

That puts Matthysse only 6.6 lbs. away from the 140 lb. light welterweight limit for the fight. Garcia came in at 151 lbs., and just missed the max weight allowed of 154 lbs. for the weigh-in.

Garcia has reputation for ballooning up after he rehydrates, so it’s possible he could be the heavier guy when the two fighters step foot in the ring on September 14th. However, Garcia will have to outweigh Matthysse by a dramatic amount of weight for it to help him in this fight, because Matthysse is the bigger puncher.

Don’t believe the hype, Matthysse will fall

matthysse55By Ken Woods:  The fight between Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse is one of the most anticipated of the year. This bout will show which fighter is truly elite in the junior welterweight division on September 14.

After Matthysse’s destruction of Lamont Peterson, many in the boxing world began to believe the hype that he was just going to beat all of his future foes up in a similar fashion. His hype train will come to a screeching halt when he steps in the ring with Garcia. That’s right, I said it.

Matthysse is a great power puncher with power in both hands; however, that is the extent of his prowess in the ring. He is one dimensional with limited footwork and defense. He is not technically sound, doesn’t have good head movement, and often throws wide looping punches. In his last fight, he literally fell to the ground trying to swing at his opponent. He has been successful to this point with opponents that have little boxing ability.

Danny Garcia: If Matthysse comes out swinging on me like he did Peterson, he’ll get dropped

matthysse543By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) says he’ll take advantage of Lucas Matthysse’s aggressiveness by immediately putting him down on the canvas if he comes out fast looking to score a quick KO in their fight on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Garcia thinks Matthysse has a padded record of knockouts, and he thinks he’s lost against the two best he’s faced during his career in Devon Alexander and Zab Judah. Garcia doesn’t see those losses as controversial like most boxing fans. He thinks Matthysse deserved to lose to Judah and Alexander in their own hometowns.

Danny Garcia: Matthysse is just an ordinary fighter

Garcia doesn’t see anything special in Matthysse, and he feels he’s going to be able to out-box him without any problems at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Garcia-Matthysse will be the co-feature bout on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez pay per view card on Showtime.

Danny Garcia: Matthysse will be making a big mistake if he slugs with me early

Garcia plans on fighting Matthysse defensively just as Zab Judah and Devon Alexander did in beating him. Whether that’ll work at this stage of Matthysse’s career is unclear because he’s a much different fighter now compared to what he was when he fought those two. It’s like night and day.

Lucas Matthysse vs. Danny Garcia: Who Will Win?

garcia5I am a fan of both WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) and Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) but this is about one thing who will walk away with the WBA & WBC belts in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 14th? In Danny Garcia’s last fight we saw him struggle against, lets face it, a past it Zab Judah. We saw Danny get exposed by the veteran Zab.

Danny is flat footed and he has little boxing ability. When he gets in trouble, he panics and just throws big left and right hooks, and he runs out of ideas. He does not have the boxing ability or brain to box on the back foot or work his opponent out and adapt to the fight, but he does have one punch knockout power in both hands as he has demonstrated throughout his career. That’s enough to win any fight. Now on to Lucas.
