Lucas Matthysse vs. Danny Garcia: Are you ready?

By Boxing News - 08/21/2013 - Comments

matthysse45By Gerardo Granados: Two of the top prime light welterweights Lucas Matthysse and Danny Garcia will be facing each other on September 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Not a single boxing fan, no matter if he is a casual or a hardcore fan, can miss this fight which has the potential to become a fight of the year award nominee.

Neither Garcia nor Matthysse is a boxing technician or a defensive wizard, so we all can expect them to engage and trade vicious lefts and rights since the first bell ring.

How many times has the reader awaited for two prime young lions to engage in the past few years? There is a fight that everybody used to talk about that never got made, and to be honest it might be past due yet. Hopefully we the boxing fans get to see more fights like this in the near future and don’t have to wait until one of the fighters start to decline to finally get to see it.

From Pennsylvania, USA, orthodox undefeated WBC – WBA Super World light welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia who stands 5´8” height and 68” reach; who holds a professional record of W26(16). His notable victories are against former champions: Erik Morales, Amir Khan, Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell and Zab Judah.

From Buenos Aires, Argentina, orthodox top contender who should already be a belt holder Lucas Martin Matthysse who stands 5´6“ height and 69” reach; who holds a professional record of W34(32)-L2. His notable victories are against current IBF belt holder Lamont Peterson, former champions: Humberto Soto, DeMarcus Corley, Vivian Harris and his dubious loses against former champions Zab Judah and Devon Alexander against whom he lost controversial decisions.

Youth, strength, power, hunger for fame and glory and most important of all the will to please the crowd. This bout could have been the main event but the names of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez can really fill any arena by themselves alone.

Before boxing fans get to see a fight that could end with either a single punch from Canelo or witness a boxing clinic from Floyd all of us will get the chance to enjoy the essence of pro boxing at his best.

The reader can pick the winner based on his personal boxing taste or knowledge but you can bet that this fight is the perfect prelude for the main event. I will place my bet on a late knockout win for Lucas Matthysse but I am sure that Danny Garcia´s left can end the fight at any round, so it´s a gamble for me. Both young lions will be ready to prove who the best light welterweight fighter of all is; but what about the reader, are you ready?
