Robert Guerrero: Doesn’t see his fight against Danny Garcia as last chance

guerrero45(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: Despite his #6 ranking with the WBC, it’s pretty much the end of the line for Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) if he loses his fight against unbeaten but struggling Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) in their fight next month on 1/23 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Deportes at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Guerrero, 33, has lost 2 out of his last 4 fights in the last two years, and some boxing fans feel that he’s lost 3 out of his last 4 fights. Guerrero was given a controversial 10 round split decision over high level journeyman Aaron Martinez in his last fight in June.

Danny Garcia battles Robert Guerrero on 1/23 on PBC

garcia564By Dan Ambrose: In a predictable fight, unbeaten #2 WBC, #4 WBA welterweight contender Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) will be matched up against the struggling light punching #6 WBC, #14 WBA Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) in a 12 round bout on January 23rd on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Deportes next year from the Staples Center in Los Angles, California.

A lot of boxing fans predicted this fight a long time ago, because both guys are with Al Haymon, and both of them are fighting in a division where they don’t really match-up well against the other fighters. It’s still a good watchable fight for fans. It’s just not quite as good a match-up as it could be if Garcia were put in with someone with punching power to hurt him.

Pacquiao says he has 4 fighters he’s looking at for final fight

1-Pacquiao_Mayweather_150429_008aBy Allan Fox: While Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is mentioning only three potential candidates for Manny Pacquiao’s final fight of his career in April of next year, Pacquiao is saying that he’s looking at four different guys.

Pacquiao says that Tim Bradley, Amir Khan, Danny Garcia and Terence Crawford are among his four potential opponents. For his part, Arum’s list only includes Crawford, Khan and Bradley. Supposedly, Pacquiao is the one that makes the decisions when it comes to who he fights.

Danny Garcia isn’t a competitive fight for Pacquiao, says Arum

1-Garcia_Cunningham_7-22-15_18518By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) isn’t in the plans for a fuure fight against Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs), according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum. He doesn’t think it’s a good fight for Pacquiao because the 27-year-old Garcia was given recent controversial decision wins over Lamont Peterson and Mauricio Herrera.

Arum feels that Garcia should have lost those fights, and he doesn’t think that he would be competitive at all with the likes of Pacquiao if he were to make those matches happen.

Khan vs. Garcia – the only fight that makes sense for Amir!

khan0987(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Bells: Virgil Hunter recently said he thinks Amir Khan should fight a rematch with Danny Garcia and that he would shine against him second time around. Floyd Mayweather also said, when explaining his dismissal of Khan as an opponent, that Khan had not beaten the guys to whom he had previously lost.

I think both Hunter and Mayweather are correct; I am a big fan of Amir’s hand speed and quickness of foot, but obviously he is too easy to hit at times when he stays in the pocket – the exceptions to this are his masterclass performances against Luis Collazo and Devon Alexander who are good, but not great fighters.

The beauty of the rematch against Garcia is that it is a fight that Khan should win; stylistically he could box Garcia’s head off all night, BUT the question is whether he has learnt the lesson of the first fight where he consistently stayed in the pocket too long after throwing quick combinations and the big shot was only a matter of time.

The shots Khan gets hit with most regularly are wide hooks that he doesn’t see coming; this was the case against Prescott, Maidana (when Khan had his hands down thinking he was out of range when he was not), Juan Diaz, Peterson and Garcia where the consequences were dire.

Danny Garcia wants Khan and Brook fights

garcia6655By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia says he’s very interested in facing both Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) and IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs). Whether Garcia gets fights against either of those guys remains to be seen. My guess is Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn will keep him far, far away from Garcia for as long as humanly possible.

The only way I see Garcia getting a fight against Brook is if he was the IBF mandatory challenger, and Brook had no choice but to take the fight or else he’d be stripped of his IBF title.

Danny Garcia says he’s ready to fight Pacquiao, but not sure if fight can happen

garcia4556By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBA 140lb champion Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) says he wouldn’t mind fighting for eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) if possible, but at the same time he doesn’t know if the fight can be realistically made now that Pacquiao’s company Top Rank has decided to sue Al Haymon, the adviser for Garcia.

It’s a lawsuit that Garcia says he doesn’t understand at all, given that Haymon helped put together the recent fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao, a fight which has turned out to be a huge money maker for Top Rank.

Danny Garcia vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero possible for the fall

guerrero55By Dan Ambrose: A fight between former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) and former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) is in the works for the fall, according to Fighthype.com.

For the 27-year-old Garcia, it’s a slight step up from his last fight against Paulie Malignaggi earlier this month. Garcia totally dominated the light hitting Malignaggi in stopping him in the 9th round of a one-sided contest.

Roach wants Pacquiao to fight Danny Garcia and Mayweather in 2016

Freddie RoachBy Chris Williams: If trainer Freddie Roach has any say so, former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao will be facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch and unbeaten former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

Unfortunately for Roach, he doesn’t have any voice in who Pacquiao fights. The decider for Pacquiao is 83-year-old Bob Arum, and he’s already been vocal about who he wants to the 36-year-old Filipino star to fight in 2016. Arum would like to see Pacquiao fight a rematch against Mayweather, and then possibly Amir Khan or Terence Crawford.
