Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergio Mora II on September 9

jacobs444

By Eric Baldwin: In a fight that few boxing fans have any interest in seeing, WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) will be back inside the ring in two months from now in a needless rematch against 35-year-old former WBA junior middleweight champion Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora (28-4-2, 8 KOs) on September 9 at the Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Jacobs has openly said that he wasn’t excited about the rematch against Mora, because he would prefer to take on a bigger name. Going back to face the same guy he already beat is a backwards move in the minds of Jacobs.

Jacobs calls out Golovkin

golovkin#1

By Patrick McHugh: A week after saying that he doesn’t want to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for another year and a half, WBA World 160lb champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) is now calling Golovkin out on social media. Jacobs says he would like to fight Golovkin in his own hometown of Brooklyn, New York.

Golovkin might be interested in facing Jacobs in 2016 after he takes care of business against contender Chris Eubank Jr. Jacobs is going to have to fight Golovkin sooner or later anyway. It would be better for him to do it sooner rather than later.

Jacobs wants Saunders, then Golovkin

jacobs555

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) says he wants to fight a unification match against WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) this year, and after he beats him, he wants to face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Goovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) for all the marbles next year in the fall of 2017 in a pay-per-view fight. But first, Jacobs wants to take Saunders’ scalp and get some momentum by adding his WBO strap to his collection before looking to face the main man in the division in GGG.

Getting Saunders inside the ring may prove to be difficult for Jacobs, however, as Saunders has been sitting on his WBO title without defending it for the past seven months since winning it with a narrow 12 round decision victory over former champion Andy Lee last December.

Jacobs says Golovkin fight can happen in 1 1/2 years from now

jacobs444

By Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) says he probably won’t be facing IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) for another 1 ½ years from now. In other words, Jacobs is using the same approach as Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to wait a year and a half before he decides to fight Golovkin. Jacobs and Canelo both seem to be calling the shots with Golovkin by saying when the fight can happen and when it can’t happen. The question is will Golovkin let himself be led by the nose by Canelo and Jacobs or will he tell them to get lost when they show interest in a year and a half from now? Golovkin might be better off telling Canelo and Jacobs that if they want to fight him, then they should work their way up the rankings to become his mandatory challenger.

Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy believe the Canelo-Golovkin fight will be a bigger one if they let it marinate until the fall of 2017. It’ unknown if it will be bigger, especially if Canelo isn’t going to be facing the big enough names to increase his own star power. You would have to assume that Canelo isn’t getting more popular with each fight.

Andy Lee planning fall return, wants Jacobs

lee67111

By Patrick McHugh: Former WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-3-1, 24 KOs) plans on returning to the ring in the fall against an opponent still to be determined. Lee says he would like a title shot straightaway against WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs in his first fight back.

It’s unclear whether Jacobs will be able to accommodate Lee right away, because he’s using up his second straight voluntary defense by taking on Sergio Mora on July 30 in a rematch at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Unless the World Boxing Association is going to keep giving Jacobs voluntary defenses, I think Lee is going to have to fight someone else and wait for his crack at Jacobs.

The WBA is expected to order a fight between Jacobs and Gennady Golovkin soon, so it’s quite possible that if Lee wants a world title shot, he’ll need to go through Golovkin to get it, because Jacobs will almost surely wind up as another one of Golovkin’s knockout victims.

Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergio Mora II moved to August or September

YouTube video

By Jeff Aranow: The rematch between WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) and 35-year-old Sergio Mora (28-4-2, 9 KOs) will no longer be fighting on July 30 on the Showtime Boxing televised card. Instead, Jacobs and Mora will be headlining their own card in August or September, according to RingTV.com.

The Jacobs-Mora II fight was supposed to be the co-feature bout on the Leo Santa Cruz vs. Carl Frampton card on 7/30 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Daniel Jacobs to fight on July 30, Sergio Mora possible

By Eric Baldwin: Last December, WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) picked up a career best 1st round knockout win over Peter Quillin in their “Battle of Brooklyn” fight. Jacobs will be back inside the ring on July 30th on the undercard of the Carl Frampton vs. Leo Santa Cruz fight card.

Jacobs’ opponent is said to be the “Latin Snake” Sergio Mora (28-4-2, 9 KOs). Jacobs stopped the 35-year-old Mora in the 2nd round last year in August. The rationale behind a second fight between Jacobs and Mora would have to be due to the way their previous fight ended with Mora suffering an ankle injury in the 2nd round.

Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergio Mora II possible for July 30

By Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) will be fighting for the first time in 2016 on July 30 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The potential opponent that Jacobs will be facing on that date is 35-year-old Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora (28-4-2, 9 KOs) if the fight can get made.

Jacobs already defeated Mora by a 3rd round stoppage last year in August 2015. Mora suffered a right ankle injury in the 3rd round and wasn’t able to continue fighting. Both fighters were down in the exciting 1st round of the bout. Jacobs began to dominate in the 2nd and by the 3rd, it looked like it was going to be only a matter of time before was stopped.

Golovkin’s Plan B is Saunders if no Canelo

saunders5533

By Jeff Aranow: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders is the Plan-B opponent for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin if his negotiations with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fails to produce a fight for September 17. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler has hopes that a fight can be made with Canelo, but if not, then the 26-year-old Saunders is the guy that want next.

The World Boxing Association will let Golokvin take the unification fight against Saunders or the Canelo fight, but after that, Golovkin will need to fight WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs at the end of the year. The WBA is looking to reduce the amount of champions they have in each division.

So a fight between WBA Super World middleweight champion Golovkin and Saunders is how the WBA will accomplish that. The WBA will let both Golovkin and Jacobs one more fight before ordering them to face each other.
