Did Calzaghe Duck Dawson?

calzaghe5573859By Scott Gilfoid: In looking at Joe Calzaghe’s recent retirement from boxing, it seems rather odd that he chose the time that he did to hang up the gloves. At the time that Calzaghe retired, he said that he had accomplished all there was in boxing and there were no more appealing fights for him. In selecting fighters like Peter Manfredo Jr., Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr, it looks as if Calzaghe was doing a little bit of cherry picking in his last years of the sport.

By Dave Lahr: Former International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver (27-5, 19 KOs) is being written off for lost by many in the boxing world for his challenge of IBF champion Chad Dawson (27-0, 17 KOs) this Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tarver, 40, lost by a 12-round decision last year in October and fought in a passive manner for most of the fight, working on trying to block the many incoming shots that were being thrown his way by the young, speedy 6’3″ Dawson.

Chad Dawson Vs Antonio Tarver 2: A Pointless Fight in The Making

By Adam Fillingham: As Saturday night draws near and the light heavyweight bout between the young up and comer ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson and ‘magic man’ Antonio Tarver gets closer I cant help but wonder how pointless the fight is. At the age of 40, Antonio Tarver is past his best. We saw that in his last fight with Dawson. For this reason I don’t think he deserves a title shot, or even step in the ring with Dawson.

Will Dawson Ever Be As Popular As Calzaghe?

By Chris Williams: I got a big laugh today when I saw Steve Bunce trying to make excuses for Joe Calzaghe on Bunce’s Boxing Hour show, saying “what right does Chad Dawson (27-0, 17 KOs) have to share the ring with Joe Calzaghe in front of 80,000 people in Millennium stadium when he’s [Dawson] fighting Antonio Tarver, who knocked out Roy Jones Jr., in front of 2000 people when you can buy a ticket for 30 quid.”

Is Hopkins Avoiding Dawson?

dawson53603By Jason Kim: If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s fighters that avoid taking on other talented opponents. That’s why I’m wondering why Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) is choosing not to fight International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (27-0, 17 KOs). It seems that Hopkins’, 44, name has surfaced recently in regards to all kinds of opponents from Tomasz Adamek, Felix Trinidad and now WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch, but the name that is oddly missing is Chad Dawson.

News – HBO Interested in Dawson vs. Hopkins

dawson32330By Manuel Perez: According to Dan Rafael at ESPN, HBO is interested in putting together a match between International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson and 44-year-old Bernard Hopkins. It seems that HBO doesn’t have any interest in showing a bout between light heavyweight contender 40-year-old Glen Johnson and IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek. Instead, HBO would much rather see Hopkins face Dawson, who arguably is the best fighter in the light heavyweight division at this time.
