Dawson Beats Tarver: The Fight Wasn’t Close

By Chris Williams: International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (28-0, 17 KOs) defeated Antonio Tarver (26-6, 19 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday night, beating the 40-year-old Tarver about as bad as he did last time out. Tarver tried to make a fight of it this time, coming at Dawson, firing off a lot of punches, but the fight looked mostly like the first fight last year in October, which concluded with Dawson winning by a lopsided 12-round decision.

Dawson Would Have Beaten Calzaghe

dawson34254By Scott Gilfoid: Having seen the IBF title fight last Saturday night between champion Chad Dawson and challenger Antonio Tarver, I think Dawson would have beaten former WBO super middleweight Joe Calzaghe had it been him in the ring instead of 40-year-old Tarver. Dawson looked good for the most part, showing fast hand speed, good power and excellent defense. Dawson controlled almost the entire 12-round fight with Tarver and only had a problem when Dawson eased off the throttle in the last two rounds.

dawson4343By Jim Dower: International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson reportedly wants a fight with Joe Calzaghe next, according to The Sun Dawson, 26, defeated former IBF light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver on Saturday night by a 12-round unanimous decision in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight, although a little more competitive than the first bout in October 2008, was still mostly a one-sided mismatch with Dawson fairly easily beating the older, slower 40-year-old Tarver.
